1 Welcome to Beacon

Inside a bullhead heading toward Vale, a young man snapped open his eyes. Tears are falling down from his eyes. He tried to wipe it but the tears kept falling.

"Huh? Why am I crying?" he thought to himself.

Only after trying for a while did the tears stop. He looks like a Schnee with white hair but orange shades at the edge said otherwise.

"Specialist Cygnus, are you okay?" asked the woman sitting beside him. She has blonde hair, wears glasses, and has a concerned look on her face. The two of them got to know each other on their way to Vale.

"I am fine, Miss Goodwitch. Just feeling overwhelmed, you know? I am going to teach at one of the best huntsman academies. And I am going to be the youngest instructor to boot! I… just don't know what to do," he replied with a sheepish smile.

He was wearing the standard uniform of Atlas Special Operatives Unit, including a white long coat on it.

"Then, you shouldn't cry about that. You were the youngest graduate of the Atlas Academy. Plus, you have two years' worth of experience as a Specialist under your belt! You will do just fine," the woman holds the hand of the young man, reassuring him as if he is her younger brother.

"Thank you, Miss Goodwitch. That… helped me a lot," he finally gave her a reassuring smile while squeezing lightly the hand of the lady.

As the youngest graduate of the Atlas Academy, he got a lot of pressure on him. Plus, being an orphan didn't help. If not for the protection of his superior, General Ironwood, he would get a lot more pressure from the councils.

General Ironwood, for the young man, is a figure of admiration. The man saw potential in him when everyone thought he was just a street rat. General Ironwood picked up a simple street rat who was, at that time, just the age of 10 and placed him in Atlas Academy Junior Division. He was to study together with the children who were 2 or 3 years older than him.

But, he got a place to stay, so he didn't say no to that. He stayed in the room given to the students by the school. As a former street rat, a simple roof on the head and a single bread for a day are like heaven for him. Of course, the school gave him three meals a day.

As he was placed in a huntsman academy, of course, he will need to learn how to fight. But the thing is, a beggar like him doesn't have any money to buy a weapon nor budget to make his personal weapon. But just before his first day at school, he saw a box on the table in his room.

He walked toward the box, thinking that the box was given to him by his benefactor, General Ironwood. But when he opened the box, he knew that was the result of one of his wishes. Inside the box was a pair of handguns. They are Judgement of Shamash, a pair of handguns made from the core of the 7th Herrscher. There was a manual on how to use it and a book of Kaslana Gunkata guide for dummies.

Just like that, he worked his way from the bottom. From the junior division, up to the senior division. Finally, he graduated from one of the best huntsman academies in the whole Remnant at the tender age of 18. Of course, he immediately decided to work as a Specialist as soon as he graduated.

"We are approaching Vale," the sound from the lady beside him snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Oh, already?" he asked, stretching his body.

"Yes. We will be switching to another airship to go to the Beacon Academy," she answered.

"Sweet," the young boy smiled.

The bullhead landed not too long after that. The young man and his lady companion walked out from the aircraft and walked up onto another.

"Woah! This is so cool!" the young man excitedly looks around the interior of the aircraft. Back in Atlas, he needed to uphold the reputation of a Specialist, so he cannot act like his age. And there was his partner to scold him if he acted like a little kid.

Glynda Goodwitch giggled a little seeing the young man in front of her acting like a child. "This is the aircraft owned by the Beacon Academy," she said but the Specialist was too absorbed in looking around and didn't hear her.

She will without doubt scold him for not listening to her if she is in her Professor persona. But, today is her day off, so she doesn't want to act all stern and cold.

"Is that Beacon? It looks very beautiful!" he exclaimed while looking through the window. "Another thing to add in the list," he added while taking out the notebook and writing down something on it.

Glynda sighed. She does not doubt his ability to fight. But she is not sure if the young man in front of her can teach while acting like that. The students of this school year have… tiny little problems after all.

"Now, now, Specialist Cygnus. We will be arriving soon. I hope you are ready to become an instructor?" Glynda stopped the Specialist jumping up and down in excitement.

"Of course, Miss Goodwitch. It was all thanks to you," he replied with a grin.

Glynda also smiled. She was tasked by Headmaster Ozpin to fetch the new instructor for the Beacon Academy. She was reluctant at first as she has a class to teach today after all. But she was glad she accepted that. Meeting this young man and interacting with him was like watching over a little brother she never had.

He is curious about almost everything, naive, hyperactive, funny, good-natured, and most of all, always thinking about how to improve himself. But the thing is… he has low self-esteem. She doesn't know his background but he must have suffered a lot in the past. That is why the teachers like her are here. She and the staff of the Beacon will help him with that. She will make sure of it.

The aircraft landed and Glynda walked out first from there. As soon as her foot touches the ground, she turns around. "Welcome to the Beacon Academy, Specialist Cygnus," she welcomed the new teacher of this school.

"I… I am happy to be here," the young soon-to-be teacher replied with emotions in his voice.

"Now, let me lead you to the headmaster," Glynda turned around and led the way to which the Specialist followed behind her with a nervous expression.

They took an elevator and with a ding, they arrived at their destination.

"You are back, Glynda," the man standing near the table nodded at the woman. He has silver hair, brown eyes and wears shaded glass spectacles. He is sipping something from his mug.

"And welcome to the Beacon Academy, young man," he greeted the Specialist who was looking around the office with great interest.

"Ah! It is nice to meet you, headmaster Ozpin, sir!" he saluted.

"You don't need to salute me, Specialist," the man smiled. Glancing at Glynda with the look of 'I told you so'.

"School year has already started, so you only need to introduce yourself in your class tomorrow," Ozpin told the young soon-to-be teacher.

"I understand," the young man nodded.

"Do you know what you will be teaching?" Ozpin added.

"Outdoor survival skills, sir," he answered.

"Correct," Ozpin nodded.

"If I may, sir?" the young man put his hand up.

"Yes?"

"Can I punish students by taking them to the combat field?" he asked.

Ozpin raised his eyebrows. "May I ask why, young man?"

"I was also punished like that back in Atlas Academy, sir!" he replied.

"How about other students?" Glynda asked.

"Only I was punished like that," he sheepishly rubbed his head.

Unknown to the two males in the room, Glynda squeezed her hand into a fist so hard, making it pale.

"Don't worry about it. I am sure that the teachers are just looking out to me in their own way," he added.

"I will accept your request, young man," after thinking for a while, Ozpin finally nodded his head.

"Really? That you very much, headmaster Ozpin," the young man's face beamed immediately.

"Let me welcome you properly this time," Ozpin placed his mug on the table and stood straight. "Welcome to Beacon, Mister Alban Cygnus."
