Betrayal and Heartbreak

"Wait what!?" Rex yelled confused.

After Yui's announcement, all the students that were outside for dismissal were staring at the two.

"You saved me from Harrison, I've never really had anyone that actually cared about me, so thank you Rex, I love you!" Yui said running up to Rex hugging him.

"Wait, the only one that actually cared about you?" Rex said still dumbfounded but wrapped up from the tight hug.

"Listen Yui, how about we go where else, I'm kinda confused" Rex looking down.

"L-Like a Date" Yui whispered.

"No! Just come with me!" Rex yelled grabbing her hand and leaving the campus.

As Yui and Rex left the building, Sabrina walked out of school to see the two running off.

"Damn Rex, first day? If you were gonna go on a date at least tell me" Sabrina said to herself walking home.

Rex and Yui went to a Burger Joint that was a Five minute walk from the campus, it was small but it wasn't packed, so they could have a decent conversation without interruption.

Rex being nice grabbed a drink for Yui as they start their conversation.

"Alright Yui, I need full clarity, what did you mean back there, was I really the only one who has ever cared about you?" Rex explained.

"Well, if we're talking about my entire life, then that would be no, I know you're confused so I'll tell you everything Rex" Yui Said quietly.

"It all started on a Warm fall day"

Yui arrived to her campus, she knew English coming into her brand new American school, but her real problem was not having friends, feeling aimless and empty.

Rinnnnng Rinnnnnnng

Went the lunch bell as the hallways flooded with different people that were unfamiliar to Yui. She looked around the lunch room, not seeing anywhere to sit, as she didn't know anyone and nobody wanted to know her either.

Yui went to the hallway to eat her lunch, failing to find a table to sit at making her anxiety worse.

She sits on the wall with lockers and looks down at her lunch with a blank expression until a short haired red headed girl stood over her.

"Hey you new here too?" She says to Yui as she sits down with her.

"Y-yeah I am" Yui said putting her head down and blushing from shyness.

The red haired girl sits down with Yui and eats her sandwich.

"The names Jessica, sorry for intruding but a lot of the people in that room are assholes" Jessica says closing her eyes and frowning.

"Your right, I couldn't really sit anywhere, but I guess that's my fault, moving when we're in High School, they've known each other for years." Yui said explaining.

"Yeah I transferred to this school cause my parents scrapped up some of their savings to transfer me to this expensive ass school, that's why I have this shitty tuna sandwich, I couldn't afford the lunch here" Jessica says waving the sandwich in the air.

Yui looked at her and smiles.

"I'm glad I found someone I have something in common with" Yui says looking down.

"Being poor?" Jessica says with her mouth full.

"No no, I mean being alone, transferring to a new school" Yui says getting up.

"Let's be friends Jessica!" Yui says with enthusiasm.

"Hell yeah, I'm down!" Jessica says in response.

The Two of them have a great time, talking about their goals, their powers, their parents, Yui even confessed her past life in Japan. Everything was amazing for the two,

Until.

"So Jessica you wanna sit in the hallway again?" Yui said smiling.

"Of course dude!" Jessica said racing her as Yui caught on and immediately dashed foward faster than Jessica despite her head start.

While Yui was smiling and looking behind her back, she turned to see a tall well dressed figure, and we before she could analyze him, she crashed.

Yui ran into the guy dropping her lunch and falling to the ground.

Yui scrambled and got up to apologize but something strange happened.

"I-I-I'm so sorry!" Yui said bowing her head.

"Watch where the hell you're going! Your clothes are already rags, don't want to dirty them up even more." The Man with glasses said.

"I-I" Yui stuttered she didn't know how to react.

"What the hell!? What caused this kind of crash out?" Jessica came running to the situation.

"You see, normally I would brush this off, if this was anyone normal, but no, I'm not gonna let some ill mannered PEASANTS step out of their place!" The man with glasses said.

Jessica looked at his ID as he was saying this.

"Harrison Flameheart huh? No wonder you're so spoiled!" Jessica said.

"No Jess, Don't" Yui said quietly.

"Are you using my family name in vain? I could buy you, disgusting pig, get out of my sight!" Harrison said walking away.

"Jess?" Yui said, Jessica was quiet, his comments made her feel like shit. It was true, the Flameheart family could buy her, it was as if his words were shooting her through the heart like a dagger.

Jessica got her backpack and left the lunchroom.

The Next day passed, Yui didn't see Jessica for almost the entire day, until dismissal to where it all fell apart.

Yui walks out of Biology, sad that she didn't get to see her friend, but as she stepped out the building, she saw her, JESSICA, but her head was low, that's weird.

"Jess!" Yui said running up to her.

"I've been looking all over for you!" She continued, Throughout all of this however, Jessica didn't say a word.

"So do you wanna-" Yui said but getting cutoff.

"Listen Yui, w-we can't be friends anymore!" Jessica yelled.

"W-what…" Yui said quietly hearing what Jessica said, seeing if it was actually real.

"WE CANT BE FRIENDS YUI!" Jessica shouted.

At this point, both of the girls were tearing up.

"He was right Yui, he could buy me, I'm too poor! So Harrison gave me this money, but in exchange we can't be friends anymore! I have to don't you see!" Jessica said smiling as tears stream down her face.

"No…" Yui said whispering.

"NO!" Yui yelled.

"You can't just stop being friends with me cause of money Jess, snap out of it, I know you're better than this, this can't be the e-"

Yui stopped, not because she stopped talking but because Jessica had slapped her down to the floor.

The slapped left a huge red mark on Yui's pale white skin.

"I-I'm Sorry" Jessica said running away.

Yui sat there motionless as the tears streamed down her face and the red mark developed into a bruise.

"That was quite the show wasn't it!" Harrison said walking up to the motionless girl.

"Why, Why, Why!" Yui said clenching her teeth.

"WHY!? Does that really need a answer you stupid bitch!" Harrison said grabbing her by the hair.

"S-Stop!" Yui said in pain as her hair got pulled up.

"People like you, need to learn where you belong, at rock bottom, people who don't stick the program need to be punished!" Harrison said conjuring flames.

Yui then described the years of abuse she went through from Harrison, Physical, Verbal, Mental, all of it, merciless, day by day, it never stopped until today

Rex was quiet, he didn't know how to respond to that story, weather to get mad, get sad, comfort her, the words just weren't there.

"I guess it's my fault, maybe if I wasn't so weak, you won't have to go through that, get hurt because of me" Yui said quietly as the tears streamed from her face and uncontrollable whimpers of despair filled the room.

Rex got up and slammed the table.

"Damn it Yui, don't say that!" Rex yelled in the empty restaurant.

Yui was shocked, all her despair and heartbreak went away in this very moment.

"You aren't weak! You're in the best school in the country, you're strong!" Rex said with his heart.

"And don't worry about my injuries, saving people is what I'm training for isn't it? If anything I should he thanking you, you've gave me a lot of kindness despite us being strangers" Rex said sitting down.

"All I can really say is, I'm glad I met you Yui!" Rex said smiling.

Before Rex could correlate another sentence he got wrapped in a strong bind.

Yui hugged him once again.

"Y-Yui" Rex said looking down at the crying girl.

"Thank you Rex, Thank you so much, you have no idea how much I needed to hear this…" Yui said quietly as tears stream down her face, but good ones this time, not the tears of sorrow.

Rex breaks out of the confusion and smiles.

"Just doing my job Yui" Rex said smiling.

Rex and Yui spend the next few hours having a good time, trying to get their mind off the recent events, going to the arcade, going to the mall and seeing what they could buy (they had no money) and talking about each other's futures.

After leaving the bus, Rex arrives to Yui's house to drop her off.

"Man Yui, this was amazing can't believe we had this much fun on a school night!" Rex says walking side by side with Yui as they approach her house.

"Yeah, I haven't had fun in so long, i-it's been refreshing to actually go out with friends" Yui says with her head down.

Rex arrives to Yui's house.

"Well I guess I'll see you tomorrow then, take it easy alright!" Rex said walking home.

Yui standing infront of her house had so many overwhelming feelings in her head, so many that she didn't know how to express them in words, she had to show Rex how she actually felt, what she really thought of him.

"R-Rex!" Yui said raising her voice to get Rex's attention.

"Yeah Yui? Anything you wanna tell me?" Rex said turning his back in confusion.

"The day I've had with you, what you did for me, I wanna be, more than just friends with you Rex!" Yui says pouring all her emotions into her words.

Rex was a little taken aback from her words, as it felt sudden, but the feeling he had for her were there, he didn't know how to say it unlike her.

"Y-Yui, I-" Before Rex could finish his sentence, Yui was infront of him, and as his sentence was cut off, his lips touched hers as they kissed.

Yui's face was bright red but she fully expressed how she felt.

It only last for a second as Yui face still red ran into her house.

Rex was still taken aback and was a little confused about the situation, it didn't feel real, but it was, Rex smiled thinking about this all night long as he went back home for some sleep from his long day.

After some scolding from his mom about the situation at school, Rex took a shower and went to sleep, only thinking about his day with Yui, the kiss, it was all on his mind in his dream.

Rinnnnnnnng Rinnnnnnnnng

There went Rex's alarm clock jolting him awake.

Rex got dressed, Went the the train, and came to the campus in no time.

Sabrina waited for him at the front as always.

"So Rex, you and Yui ran off together? What happened?" Sabrina asked.

You couldn't tell from his brown skin but Rex was blushing bright red.

"Uh, nothing, nothing at all Sabrina! You're crazy!" Rex said turning his head.

"I don't think I'm following" Sabrina said as they went to their classroom.

"All you need to know is that not much happened Sabrina, just a hangout between friends" Rex said walking into the classroom.

"Rex!" Yui said running towards him wrapping around his arm.

"Okay maybe more than friends" Rex says smiling.

"Rex you sleez, you went and manipulate poor Yui on the first day" Sabrina said putting her head down.

"What are you talking about! You don't know what you're even talking about Sabrina!" Rex said frowning.

"Rex has a girlfriend? That's crazy" Orion thought placing his hand on his head bored.

"Glad to see the class getting along already! Ain't that right Jake?" M1cheal added.

"Yeah you got that right, I mean we only knew each other for a day but I like the vibe you guys give!" Jake says with his hands behind his head relaxing.

Ring! Ring!

There went the first bell as everyone got seated.

Roughouser appeared in an instant not being late this time, with his usual bright, white smile.

"Alright class, the real stuff starts today!" Roughouser said, although for some reason he didn't take role first, kind of weird but maybe he's gonna do it eventually.

"Alright before the festivities, I have something I need to address!" Roughouser said raising his voice and immediately disappearing from his speed.

"Where the hell did he g-" Before Rex could even finish his thought he immediately got struck in the head, same as Harrison, both of the boys hit their faces on the desk.

"W-What the hell was that" Rex said raising his face.

Roughouser gives a annoyed look at the boys as he continues.

"Even if I'm easygoing, I am a man of my word, and I said I would treat you guys like actual heroes, Rex, Harrison, the actions you displayed yesterday were absolutely abhorrent!" Roughouser said raising his voice, everyone in the room felt the terrifying presence he gave and his unbelievable strength surrounded the place as nobody even moved a muscle.

"The original punishment for you two was to fix the two football fields of grass you two destroyed in your little prize fight, but no, since you're hero course, and Wildvine just being able to restore the planet life anyway, I got something better, for the whole class to enjoy!" Roughouser proposed.

"A Power Test! For the entire class to participate in!" Roughouser said.

The class was a little confused for a moment but Roughouser continued.

"Rex, Harrison, this has more stakes for you however, if either one of you come in last for the last, you will be expelled without any hesitation, and will never be able to apply to this school ever again." Roughouser said bluntly, he wasn't a hint of irony in his face, he was dead serious.

"Okay I think I may have fucked up…" Rex thought as Roughouser stood in front of the class.

This was Rex's first test at being a hero, and if he isn't careful His last.

Meanwhile in a familiar place

"Sorry Omega-Man, this case was a few weeks back but I'm afraid you're very hard to get in contact with" The Detective said.

"That's fine, so what's the details of this case" Omega-Man said stepping into the hospital where a hooded man brutally killed doctors and nurses of the building.

"Well, a bunch of people were killed, and the Green Guy you fought all those months ago got kidnapped" The Detective said blowing out smoke from his cigarette.

"Wait what!?" Omega-Man said in shock.

"Yep gone, we got nothing from the autopsy due to the body getting snatched, I witnesses just started talking due to the shock of the scene, but the assailant was a Hooded man with no face, allegedly of course" The Detective said.

"I see" Omega-Man said stepping back.

He was stuck in serious thought of the future to come, it terrified him.

"That Green Guy gave a lot of the top heroes in Neo New York some trouble, if that hooded man is his master and can make more of those guys at more or equal strength, this isn't some case of a villain, this could he a sign of war" Omega Man explained.

"Seriously!" The Detective says.

"Fine then, if that's what you truly believe, then we'll be working day and night to find this guy" The Detective said.

What the future has in store for the heroes of Neo New York is unknown, but what we do know, Peace among the city, no, the country, is going to be much harder to maintain.

As Omega-Man and the Detective walked out, as they spoke, the assailant was making his first moves.
