A Game Of Chess With A Vampire

[SLOW BURN ROMANCE. RATED 18: NO RAPE] What if the sort of love you'd wanted and desired, only but a man incapable of love could give it to you–a man who has not the slightest of an idea what the word "Love" meant? ..... Vampires coexisted with humans for centuries without either side hunting or killing the other due to a peace treaty. They didn’t feed on human blood for so long either, but that changes when the first vampire auction is held. Six human slaves were sold, and among them included Avelina, a twenty-six-year-old woman. Avelina is sold to an infamous Vampire prince, Draven Delgaard, rumored to have committed heinous acts even amongst his kind. She fears for her life upon their first encounter, but to her utmost bewilderment, Draven Delgaard makes a deal with her. He sought the inheritance of the royal family, but to be qualified, he needed a wife. Since his kinds weren’t available due to his reputation, Avelina was one of the few options left. In exchange for her freedom, she will assist him in obtaining the inheritance. But this royal inheritance can only be acquired through the style of a chess game with other royal opponents. A game of strategy and survival. Should she succeed, her freedom shall be regained and it would be a win-win for both her and Draven. However, she soon realizes that success might come at a very heavy cost. Will Avelina and Draven be able to win the game of chess? Will they secure her freedom and inheritance, or will they fall victim to the dangerous machinations of the royal family?

Are You Teasing Me, Again?

Avelina nodded.

"Yes. Most mafias and tattoos are like the numbers five and six." She chortled. "It's surprising that you don't have one."

"Avelina, I personally have no reason to draw things on my body. I wouldn't say they are very nice nor would I say they are terrible, but I will say it's a waste of my time," Draven said, his face crumpled in distaste.

"Oh…" Avelina did not hide her surprise.

Despite her disdain for the vampires, whom she saw as devilish and cruel creatures, she couldn't deny that Draven was an exception despite knowing him for such a short time.

He had this certain rugged charm that she couldn't seem to decipher. His direct, domineering style as well as his straightforwardness leaves her rather intrigued by him. It sort of leaves her subconsciously drawn to him sometimes rather than afraid, as she should be.

The bath went on for a few more minutes.

Avelina stepped out first and grabbed the robe that had been brought by Draven's maid. She slipped into the robe and used the towel to wrap up her wet hair.

Draven got out as well and wore his robe. He used the towel to wipe his hair and left the indoor hot spring with Avelina.

As they strolled back to their room, they couldn't help but be admired by the workers. In their eyes, Avelina and Draven looked like the perfect couple.

Draven shut the door of their room and walked straight into the bathroom with Avelina. They brushed their teeth, and as they stepped out, he took a turn and ambled to his closet.

Out of curiosity, Avelina peeked inside, and her brows creased upon seeing that every single one of his clothes was... white.

What sort of wedding was happening in that closet?…

"White is your favorite color, huh?" she breezily asked

Draven looked briefly at her and nodded. "It is not my favorite, but it is the only color I adore." He shut the door to the closet room.

Doesn't that basically mean it's your favorite?… Avelina was a bit perplexed.

She slipped into a tulle-beaded, sequin sleeveless long ice blue dress, with a shiny v-neck. She brushed her hair, letting it bounce down to her waist.

She swiveled her head and shot a glance at the dressing room the second she heard a creak.

Draven opened the door and stepped out.

Avelina shifted her gaze to him and couldn't help but instantly fall into a daze.

He was clad in perfectly ironed trousers and a shirt which he rolled its hem up to his arm. About three buttons were left open.

How could someone look so good and yet so simple at the same time?

"Are you okay?" Draven poked her forehead, snapping her out of her drifting thoughts.

Avelina furiously batted her eyes and awkwardly proffered him a smile. "Yes, I am okay."

Draven walked past her to the table with a concerned expression. He sat down on the chair and grabbed a brush.

"Are you going to do that by yourself?" Avelina queried curiously.

"I always do it by myself," Draven replied without hesitation.

Avelina wrinkled her brows. "Why? Your maids could do that for you, no?"

"You're right. But I do not feel comfortable about it. They tend to make eye contact with me through the mirror and you know how people react to my eyes. It makes me even more uncomfortable. Also, I don't like physical touch. I am very selective of people who can touch me," Draven explained simply.

"Ah… I see. Do you mind if I brush your hair for you?" Avelina asked.

Draven looked at her reflection in the mirror for a few moments as though in thought before handing the brush over to her.

Avelina's smile stretched from ear to ear, and she grabbed the brush. She gently ran her slender fingers through his hair.

So soft and silky... She was astonished.

She took extra care of his hair, and per his request, she tied it up into a low, loose bun.

"Do you like it?" she inquired with her lips curved into a soft smile.

Draven scrutinized his hair and nodded his head. "I like it. You do it better than I do."

He stood up from the chair and grabbed Avelina's hand. "Let's go. I'm sure you must be hungry. I had the workers make breakfast early today. I will be going to sleep a bit late too."

Avelina followed beside him as he walked her out of the room. They proceeded through the open gate and halted near the pavilion situated amid the garden.

Surrounded by it were tall trees and blooming flowers of various colors. The structure was a magnificent blend of classic and modern architecture, with white marble pillars and walls that were accented with gold trimmings.

The pavilion's roof was made of clear glass, allowing natural light to stream in.

As Avelina stepped inside with Draven, they were greeted by the sweet fragrance of freshly bloomed flowers. The sound of a nearby waterfall added to the tranquil atmosphere.

The interior was decorated with elegant furniture made of the finest wood, and the plush cushions were adorned with intricate patterns that were soft to the touch. The dining table in the center was beautifully set with fine china and silverware, which had lots of delicacies properly covered.

Everything screams rich... Avelina let out a deep breath.

She sat down on the cushion opposite Draven, and the maids in waiting carefully took the covers off the food. They served tea and stepped back to let them enjoy their breakfast.

The aroma of freshly brewed tea and sizzling bacon filled the air.

This family is indeed royalty…Avelina inhaled and exhaled with dreamy eyes.

"Enjoy." Draven picked up his utensils and placed his white napkin a bit into his shirt. He tucked into his breakfast with a cup of finely brewed black tea.

Avelina, on the other hand, sat staring at the utensils, not exactly sure how to use them. A frown settled on her face, and she reluctantly picked them up.

She mirrored Draven's actions by first tucking her napkin in and trying the utensils, but it still wasn't as easy as she thought. Out of frustration, she dropped it and looked at Draven.

"Avelina, you do not have to use it if you don't know how to. It is very understandable, so make do with what you can use. Try the spoon or the fork only," Draven said to her with a charming expression, making it appear as though he was amused.

"Are you teasing me again?" Avelina asked, her bro
