A Fool's Change of Heart

DISCLAIMER: I don't own anything besides the name of the protagonist. Persona belongs to whoever created it. Also, the No One 17 and Under Admitted is because of the excessive swearing, dark themes and not for the possible (but unlikely) lemons. Shin Yuuta, who unknowingly had caused world devastation in another timeline, had been sent to the sea of souls to cleanse the influence a malevolent entity, composed from humanity's evil thoughts, had over him. Wielding the gifts he had received from his body's previous host and a certain mask-wearing being, it is up for our protagonist to make sure history doesn't repeat itself. P.S: The pic I used for cover isn't mine either.

Best girl Makoto appears

"Sup, Igor." said Shin, waving his hand behind his prison door.

"Trickster, welcome. I brought you here tonight because I'd like to congratulate you." said the long-nosed man.

"To think our master would offer words of praise to someone..." muttered Justine.

"You should better treasure this moment, Inmate!" shouted Caroline.

"You have encountered allies who share your goals, and you have found your place in reality. The time has come. Your rehabilitation will soon begin."

"So, what is exactly this "rehabilitation" that you speak of?" asked the teen.

"You have a special potential. However, that must be refined into an useful power. Right now, it is weak, but refining it shall grant you the strength to stand against the upcoming ruin... That is the rehabilitation cast upon you."

"Oh, the apocalypse. Now that sounds fun." said Shin.

"Indeed. Fighting against Shadows and fusing Personas are ways to gain the strength to resist the ruin." said Igor.

"Though it might be presumptuous of us, we also have words of wisdom for you." said Justine.

"When you're back in reality, you better deepen your relationship with the ones you have bonds with." said the other little girl.

"Spending time with those people will lead to the cultivation of your relationships with them."

"So, if you have time to spare, you'd better visit your contractors, Inmate!"

"That is another source of strength to evade the ruin that our master mentioned." said Justine.

"Thanks to your bonds, your heart is slowly gaining the power of opposition. The rehabilitation is going very well. It is a most joyous occasion. I shall grant you an ability befitting of your newfound growth. Consider it a gift." said Igor, as a cool feeling washed over Shin.

It felt similar yet different to when his bonds grow stronger.

'If the number of bonus slots I get now is the same as in canon, then I should have 9 slots now.' thought Shin.

"...The time has come. Return to your brief moments of rest." said Justine.

-INTERMISSION-

6th of May, at Shujin Academy.

Kawakami was standing in front of the class, as usual.

"LIke you must've heard last week, gym class is cancelled today. Instead, I'm supposed to give you some guidance. Basically, don't go around talking about the incident. That's all."

She scratched the back of her head awkwardly.

"The police are still investigating Mr Kamoshida, so I can't say anything myself. As a teacher though, I'm ashamed for not having that a student was suffering like that..."

The woman looked sad.

"I'm not trying to defend him, but as a colleague, he just seemed like... well, a normal person. Honestly, it still doesn't feel real. I guess people can have multiple sides to them."

"The teachers have it rough too, huh?" muttered Morgana from inside of Shin's desk.

"Oh yeah, I just remembered something I learned about psychology. They say that humans have several different personalities hidden in their subconscious."

The whole class seemed more attentive than before.

"To be clear, I'm not talking about multiple personality disorder. These different personalities can be a different gender or a different age from you. I mean, if you think about how gods and monsters in myths were based on the human images... If you actually saw one of those personalities with your own eyes, it might look like a monster."

Kawakami finally seemed to notice the class seriousness, as she said.

"Hm? You all seem more alert than usual. Did I finally talk about something that interests you? Well, I'm just talking about something that I heard. It feels that only now I understood what I learned a long time ago."

-INTERMISSION-

During lunchtime, Shin met up with Ryuji, Ann and Shiho near the stairs. As the group was talking about the requests on the Phantom Enthusiast Website, they overheard some students talking about the Phantom Thieves.

"I wonder if that rumour about the Phantom Thieves stealing Kamoshida's heart was true." said a girl with long brown hair.

"It's got to be made up. Do you seriously think they exist?" asked another girl, this one with short black hair.

"But look at Kamoshida. He's detained by the police. And I heard even the principal is suspected of being an accomplice. You saw how he reacted when Kamoshida confessed."

"Well, I don't think he could've kept the secret in after that boy tried to kill himself."

"Yeah, you might be right."

"More importantly, it sucks that our school is going to be known for something like this!" said the black haired girl.

"I wonder if it'll affect our college entrance..." said the other girl.

After the two left, Ryuji turned to face the others and said.

"That's a normal reaction, for now, but they'll see! If we take care of 2 or 3 famous people, they'll have to believe we exist."

"But we don't have any target, do we? Or any lead at all? Not to say that there's also that rumour about us threatening Kamoshida." said Ann.

"Looks like you'll have to live a normal, honest school life for now. Still, you shouldn't slack off in the meantime. " said Morgana.

"I'll be keeping an eye on any big shots who might be coming around." said Ryuji.

"And I'll try to dig up some dirt online." said Ann.

Meanwhile, in the principal's office.

"Did you want to talk to me, Principal Kobayakawa?" asked a brown-haired girl.

The girl was wearing a black halter vest over a long-sleeved white shirt with a turtleneck, along with the school uniform skirt, black pantyhose and ankle-high boots.

"You saw the state Mr Kamoshida was in, didn't you? It's as if his personality has completely changed. Something is definitely wrong here." said the man.

"I'm not sure I follow..." said the girl.

"From what I've heard, it appears as though some students were meddling in his business. If they did something to him, who could they be."

"Are you saying that these students may have caused Mr Kamoshida to change?"

"That is what I wish to know... Even if it takes some probing into student matters... I would like you to look into this for me."

"It is true that there are many rumours going around now, but... Do you mean all this talk about those Phantom Thieves?" asked the girl.

"It is undeniable that Mr Kamoshida has changed in some way. I'd like to have a grasp of the cause. This also shall ensure that I handle the mass media and the police in the correct fashion." said the principal.

"Oh..."

"I will continue speaking to Mr Kamoshida myself. Unless you find whoever did this, these irresponsible rumours are likely never die down. Don't you agree? You have been at the top of your class since day one. Your conduct is good, and the teachers favor you. I could write you a recommendation for any college of your choosing, Makoto Niijima."

"Thank you..." she muttered.

"Your lineage must certainly play a part in this excellence. Your sister is still so young, and yet she holds an admirable position at the Public Prosecutor's Office, no?"

Makoto seemed shocked.

"If something disappointing were to happen here, it wouldn't reflect very well on your sister... Do you understand?" asked the man.

"Yes." the girl nodded, resigned.

"Haha, how wise. It's no wonder you're our student council president. I'd appreciate if you looked into this as soon as possible. I ask that you begin at once."

"Yes. If you'll excuse me then." said Makoto, nodding her head.

After the girl left the office, the principal called someone.

"It's me sir. My apologies for troubling you at such a busy time... Yes, it's about the matter we discussed earlier... I have all bases covered. The investigation will begin immediately... Of course... Yes, I will get results... I should be able to update you soon... Well then, I must be going. Thank you very much for your time..."

This chapter's additional info is on... Igor!

While presenting himself as a mere servant of Philemon, Igor seems to be far more than this. He was originally a doll handmade by a mysterious person, who became alive thanks to a magic ritual. Because of that, Igor ponders upon the question of whether he is merely a doll or perhaps even human. Thus, he shows an interest in human beings. Further on, he creates Margaret, Elizabeth, Theodore, and Lavenza, as assistants who pursue similar questions in life to assist him in the Velvet Room.

In every Persona game to date, Igor has played the role of Proprietor of the Velvet Room, a space between dream and reality, mind and matter. As the proprietor, Igor provides insight to the protagonists regarding their powers, emotional bonds, and possible dangers that await them in their journey. Igor also provides the vital services of Persona fusion, which allows the creation of vastly more powerful Personas from preexisting ones and the use of the Persona Compendium, which allows previously created and/or acquired Personas to be recalled at a later time.

During conversations concerning the protagonists' actions, Igor opts for rather cryptic comments that tend to foreshadow coming events and possibly the outcome of the story as a whole, regardless of whether or not those comments are at the time understood (which may be his intent). This suggests that Igor may have near-omniscience, though by his own admission, there are things that even he can't foresee.

Igor's name, along with Margaret, Elizabeth, Theodore, Lavenza, Caroline and Justine may come from Frankenstein, though Igor was a later addition and did not appear in Mary Shelley's original novel.

According to the Persona World guide, every visitor and guest of the Velvet Room is aware and initially taken aback by Igor's overly long nose. However, none of them dare to mention that.

Joyous, because this day makes one month since this book is out.

Sad, because I lost all my He-man gifs on discord...
