CHAPTER 109
288 AC
After summoning everyone, I jumped on Sith, and we quickly started approaching the ironborn army of 700-800 men. House Mormont's castle was even worse than Glover's. Deepwood Motte had wooden walls of at least 10 meters, while House Mormont only had walls no longer than 5 meters. So, it was not possible to retreat behind walls and use a similar tactic.
After buffing everyone, I had only 80 mana, so I had to use this mana to terrorize the army and make them retreat. I could only achieve this by bluffing or doing so much damage in little time they would rout from fear. I had about 150 arrows with me. First of all, I wanted to use each of these arrows. In this battle, I was using Lyka as my mount. Since I needed Sith to fight away from me, she was not as fast or strong as Sith, but she was good enough. Lyka was a little bit bigger than a donkey, so it was possible for me to mount her, but because she didn't have a saddle, it was a bit hard to ride on her.
Except for Lyka, Imu, Poe, and I; my other familiars scattered around the army, and I ordered them not to join the battle. I started my attack by throwing two tegonden (earth shards) toward the point where the army was most concentrated. Two 50cm rugby ball-shaped boulders rushed into the army, and like scythes, they reaped all the souls in front of them. Because it moved in a straight line, every man that came in contact with it had broken bones, caved chest, or cracked skull. Most had died on impact, but those who lost a limb were screaming in agony while other men were shouting ambush.
With each of these spells, I killed around 40 men. Of course, the number of people I killed would decrease every time I used this spell. After getting hit a few more times, they would understand the weakness of this spell "Don't get lined up." The Ironborns started running toward me as soon as they saw me. They didn't have a single horse because they didn't have room on their ship, so I could kite them as I wanted.
I first targeted the men giving orders and started shooting arrows at them one by one. But the Ironborns, who realized that they could not keep up with me, started to create a shield wall. It was a classic defensive tactic. Suppose they were facing a regular archer unit. It would be the proper way to waste their arrows, but there was something the Ironborns forgot in their panic.
They lined up again. I sent two tegonden (earth shards) toward two different points of the shield wall. This time, there were more broken arms and legs than dead as each soldier was hiding behind their shield, but that meant they couldn't fight too. Within 5 minutes, nearly 250 soldiers were either killed or seriously injured, accompanied by arrows and spells.
I had 64 mana and 80 arrows left. The Ironborns, who were now getting smarter and realizing that I was alone, started to form their shield walls from small groups of 5 or 10 soldiers. Using tegonden (earth shards) was no longer an effective spell. At this moment, Imu and Poe began to step in. Like a bomber, Poe was using the wind bomb spell at the points where they were most concentrated.
Poe, who was able to kill about 50 more people in six dives, was exhausted and retreated when she finished her mana. Imu, on the other hand, could move freely as if swimming under the ground, come to the surface for a second, bite someone, and go back under the ground.
Imu's venom was not infinite. Yes, it had a very strong venom. If all the venom in the venom sac was mixed into a liquid, it could kill thousands of people, but with biting, more than enough venom would go to one person. So Imu was only able to kill 60 people. Meanwhile, I was able to down 40 more people with 80 arrows.
I had finished all my arrows, and all the spells that I could use from this distance couldn't kill more than 2-3 people anymore, and these zealots didn't seem to be routing any time soon. 10-20 of them started routing, but the routing stopped when the soldiers coming from behind started to kill those who escaped on the orders of their commander.
It looked like I needed to revert to the hit-and-run tactic now. Lyka, Berus, Erebus, Sith, and I had begun attacking the remaining 400 soldiers from different points. Everyone was killing a few soldiers and then running back without being surrounded. If they were normal animals, this would not be an effective method with so few people because it was a very tiring method, but it was effective thanks to the stamina buff.
Another plus point was when Lyka dived between them, I used the spell Perzys ondos (Burning hand) to spread flames on both sides of us like a flamethrower, killing many people and at the same time facilitating our escape.
I was able to do this a few more times and kill 150 more soldiers, but I only had 45 mana left. Once again, when I dived into the ranks of ironborn, they were now trying to avoid me and were still trying to shoot me with their arrows. Of course, this was a wasted effort. Even though there were only 15-20 soldiers on either side, I still used the burning hands spell.
The flames in the form of a cone with a diameter of 5 meters began to engulf the men, and painful screams were heard. The soldiers who remained hearing these screams and massacres were now slowly starting to break down, and even the zealot soldiers weren't able to keep the others in line.
At that moment, a man completely covered in armor came out of the flames and struck Lyka from the side with his red shield with a bone hand on it. I couldn't hold on to Lyka because of the lack of saddle due to the impact of this blow, and I fell to the ground.
I don't think I could hold on even with a saddle because it was an attack that caught me completely off guard because these flames were not campfire flames. It was a level 2 spell that could turn a normal human into coal. Even with armor on, when he entered these flames, he had to be roasted like a turkey in an oven. How was this possible?
