Breakfast

I got to the bottom of the stairs by gripping the guardrail and carefully feeling each step.

I heard voices coming from the other room. It sounded like the family was trying to get to know their new guests.

I placed my hand onto the wall and slowly made my way to the sound.

After bumping into a few pieces of furniture I was able to tell what they were saying.

"So you don't need plant fibers at all?"

The voice of the girl that lead me here, rang out from within the room

"Yeah, we can usually make whatever we need ourselves."

A male voice that I haven't heard before replied.

"That's amazing!"

The excitable voice of my guide rang out again.

"Yeah, I miss them."

"We'll get you back. Don't worry."

They seemed to be talking about the different places they came from.

"More nectar please."

This new voice vibrated with every word.

"Sure sweetie, take as much as you like."

"Thank you. Um, it looks like she's awake."

I felt a twinge of fear shoot through me.

'But I haven't made it to the door yet. At least I don't think so.'

I heard someone walking nearby.

*Gasp

"You're adorable!"

I winced as the girl tackled me with a hug and started spinning, my feet lifted from the ground.

'I'm not that short! I'm five and a half centimeters for crying out loud!'

After being spun around like a rag doll, the girl grabbed me by the hand and yanked me toward the kitchen.

Where I promptly face-planted into the doorway because I couldn't see.

'I regret everything.'

"Oh I'm sorry are you okay?!"

The worried voice of the girl grated at my, once again active, headache.

I only gave a wince in response.

"Here let me help you with that."

I saw a glow come from the blob in front of me and the pain slowly went away.

"Do you need help getting up?"

The girl offered me what I assumed was a hand.

I grabbed after a couple of swipes in the direction of said blob.

...

The headache was killing me, alright.

The girl helped me to a chair and got me a plate. She was muttering apologies all the while.

I looked at my plate with a vicious stare and let the magic slowly form into a matrix so I can see before I started eating.

"Oh sweetie, do you need glasses?"

The worried voice of what I assumed to be the mother asked.

I quietly nodded in the direction that it came from and continued eating.

"We'll just have to get you some after breakfast. We can get all of you something for the road later."

"Road?"

The girl with the vibrating voice asked what I was thinking.

"Well, the rescue team is moving everyone over to a safe location in a few days."

"This shelter is just a temporary place for everyone to stay while they rescue everyone before we leave."

"It isn't safe for us to stay here so close to the humans."

That pricked up my ears.

'Humans, not giants? Is that what they call themselves? Have they established contact? Is the term giants just a way for older generations to instill fear in the younger generations or is that just ou-'

"Excuse me."

The voice startled me from my theories.

I turned to look around in confusion as I wasn't sure where it came from.

"Over here, miss."

I turned to look at who I think was the brother.

"Could you please tell us your name?"

I'm glad I couldn't see, cause that only made my reaction more genuine.

I looked around the table with a worried expression on my face.

...

I noticed that the blobs leaned a bit closer after saying nothing for a few seconds.

...

The tension started to feel palpable as I wondered why did they care so much.

"Dye."
