He slowly opened his eyes, a sigh escaping his lips as his head started to hurt more and more. He blinked repeatedly as, due to his blurry vision, his surroundings weren’t clear. He then tried to move his head in an attempt to look at his right just to come to the conclusion that he couldn't. His eyebrows formed a deep frown as a few seconds later he realized that he couldn’t move his hand either… or any part of his body.

He suddenly became alert and tried to force himself to see properly but the darkness wasn’t helping. So he tried to call out his wife’s name only to finally feel how dry his throat was.

‘What… What is going on? Am I experiencing a sleeping paralysis?’

His guts were telling him that that wasn’t what was going on, that the situation was more serious than a sleeping paralysis. His guts were telling him to be alert, that he is in danger. But he did what any other human being would do.

He ignored it.
