As the gate was opened, the group of people were taken aback and subconsciously stepped backwards.
Seeing that it was Le Xaan who opened the gate, Le Finn hurriedly walked up.
"Xaan! Are you still alright?"
Le Finn's face showed his concerns towards Le Xaan.
Le Xaan found that they were holding torches and the guards among them had already unsheathed their swords or blades, which made him confused.
"What happened? Anything wrong?" he asked loudly.
Le Finn let out a long sigh.
"Last night in our Mansion, another person went missing."
"What?"
Le Xaan's eyes were bulging in shock.
Louir Cayv walked up and went over every detail of the event.
Last night, while Le Xaan was staying up in the compound, the rest of them once gathered outside of it and, indeed, heard no weeping sounds.
Everything was perfectly normal at the beginning. The guards kept patrolling as usual. Some people stayed in their rooms, perhaps experiencing insomnia all night and restlessly waiting for the result of Le Xaan.
However, during the late hours of the night, a strange event took place.
"It's Cakuy... he said he had to pee, but he never came back..."
A portly woman was weeping softly, dabbing at her tears with a handkerchief.
This woman was Xuyn Kinin, Le Xaan's biological mother's younger sister---his aunt.
This time, the one missing was Xuyn Cakuy, Le Xaan's cousin brother.
Le Xaan and Xuyn Cakuy were not on friendly terms. That guy was addicted to gambling and lacked the drive to live a purposeful life. And Le Xaan sometimes would scold him for his misbehavior.
Xuyn Cakuy, therefore, usually went out of his way to avoid encountering Le Xaan.
Unexpectedly, he was the missing one this time.
Le Xaan furrowed his brows tightly.
"I stayed up all night, sitting there and waiting for the noise, yet hearing nothing from start to end."
Upon hearing this, everyone felt a chill run up their spine.
"What's wrong on earth!"
Le Xaan's aunt, Xuyn Kinin, burst out into tears.
"Kinin, don't be so emotional; there must be some ways to make amends." Louir Cayv walked over and held Xuyn Kinin's hands, trying to calm her down.
"Now go to the main hall and discuss possible solutions to the situation."
Le Finn said with a sigh.
Then, the group of people scattered and returned to their houses while Le Finn called a few among them, including Le Xaan and his eldest uncle, Le Pyan, over to the main hall.
Then, the main hall's door was shut tight, and the atmosphere on the scene was grim.
Le Pyan had a square face framed by bold brows and large eyes and was attired in a suit of steel chain mail with a saber at his hip.
He wore a grave expression now, seated by Le Finn's side.
"Should we seek help from the sheriff force?" Le Pyan said slowly, "If we can't find the source of these incidents in the following days, I'm afraid we have to."
"What can they help? You know what I mean..." Le Finn sighed. This was the umpteenth time he had sighed today.
These few days, he was careworn and now looked more aged.
Le Xaan was seated next to Le Finn and stayed silent.
Le Finn glanced at his son.
"Xaan, what do you have to say? You're the future family head who are going to take over control of the entire family someday. Do you have any possible solutions to the current dilemma we're facing?"
Le Xaan closed his eyes for moments before opening them and was then about to give his reply.
"It's no good! It's no good!"
Qiki's voice suddenly found its way into the main hall.
"Young Master Xaan! Our Mansion's people are going to escape!"
Le Xaan rose to his feet and strode up to open the door, behind which Qiki was waiting with a flushed face.
"Young Master, the guard Vane Koo has secretly leaded several people to escape! I hear it from my friend and rush here to inform you at once."
"Escape?"
Le Xaan's eyes were bulging in fury.
He anticipated that, due to their terror, some people would flee for their lives, but he didn't expect that it would take place so soon.
"Where's Vane Koo?"
"I don't know. They have slipped away before we are aware of it. But now, Zaner Hamvey and several other people are also gathering in a house. I am afraid they entertain similar intentions."
Qiki hurriedly answered.
Zaner Hamvey was also a team leader among the guards.
"How many people are gathering there?"
Le Xaan asked immediately.
"I am not sure about that, but their number is not small!" Qiki replied.
"Okay. I will go over now!"
Le Xaan's face darkened as he took great strides toward that house.
Le Finn and Le Pyan fell in behind Le Xaan.
Their group soon made the way to the yard before the house.
Twenty or so people had collected there by now, the majority being manservants and guards, with a minority of servant girls.
Their faces were suffused with terror and restlessness.
Some of them had already packed up their stuff and were ready to escape from the Mansion at any moment.
Seeing that Le Xaan's group had arrived, the noisy scene was quieted down somewhat.
"Who wants to leave?"
Le Xaan stepped forward, asking with a cold face.
"All of us!"
A guard walked forward. As expected, it was Zaner Hamvey. His face displayed the deep-rooted horror in his heart.
"Young Master Xaan, we are humans too. Our lives matter. These weird occurrences in the Mansion are caused by no humans, but by a female ghost!"
He opened his eyes wide, the eyeballs brimming with his profound fear.
"Ridiculous!"
Le Xaan interrupted him with a stern expression and voice.
"You actually have the guts to spread the rumor to incite people!"
"But I saw it ---- the white figure! Do your Le family want to take us with you to the tombs..."
"Pfft!"
Blood was splashing all over the floor!
Zaner Hamvey's head jerked upward into the air before landing on the ground and rolling around. It stopped at the feet of a maidservant.
"Death to anyone circulating the rumor!"
Le Xaan let out a hoarse snarl, staring at the group of people and holding his blade tight.
"Pong!"
The headless body of the guard crashed onto the floor.
"Ahhh!"
The maidservant screamed deafeningly.
"Shut up!"
With his menacing, ferocious aura, Le Xaan swept his eyes over her. Immediately, the girl was so intimidated that she automatically covered her own mouth and began to sob under her breath.
The group of guards and servants had never witnessed such a bloody scene before.
Now, they were shuddering all over with deathly pale faces, not daring to utter a sound.
"Now all of you go back to work. Death awaits anyone who acts out of order!"
Le Xaan barked in a stern voice.
They all showed fearful expressions on their faces.
Le Xaan's tyrannical manners made them recall his feat of single-handedly executing the wanted criminals, the Ryen brothers, not long ago.
As though escaping from a calamity, they scattered right away.
