The phone awakened Hunter at about nine. He reached over and picked up his cell from the nightstand. “‘Lo?”
“Hunter…did I wake you?”
Hunter sat up straighter in bed. He could hear the sound of Jay taking a shower in the next room. “No,” he lied. “Not at all. What’s going on?” He was afraid Ian was going to attempt to convince him once again not to move to Beaumont House. Various appeals to what the attorney referred to as his “common sense” had been unsuccessful, pleas that his grandmother did not want things this way or that he would be lonely or that the house was uninhabitable, though they both knew this last statement for a lie.
