A glance into Hiroki's life

"Mom, is Nanami san going to be here today?" Hiroki asked. You can tell how Hiroki excited was just by the light in his eyes and the upbeat tone of his voice. He had been this way since Nanami promised to teach him and you couldn't even bring yourself to tell him how dangerous it could be.

"It's on Saturday, Hiroki." You said with a giggle, "Today's Friday."

Hiroki pouted at that, "Does that I mean you're going to work and I'm going to school?"

"Yes, sweetie. We are."

Hiroki thought for a while before asking, "But can't we just stay together? Like Kota kun and his mother."

"Unfortunately no. You know...I have to go to work because I am an adult and we only have each other. You also can't skip school, okay? You shouldn't make it into a habit." You told little Hidoki.

"Okay, mom."

"Good, now let's go!" You held Hiroki's little hand and walked him to his kindergarten school.

---------------

After you dropped little Hiroki off at his school, you headed to work. So, there was no way you could know how Hiroki was doing until you pick him up after work.

His homeroom teacher was also a new mother and she was nice enough to let Hiroki stay at school until you could pick him up. You had always been thankful for that. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to get a full time job and if you couldn't work full-time, there was no way you could cover monthly costs.

That still means you have to spend little time with little Hiroki. But, you always made sure he knew how much you love him and care for him. You wished you could give him all the love he could get, even from his father. Since it wasn't possible, you swore you would just try your best for him.

---------------

"Kota kun wants to be a doctor when you grow up?" The teacher asked.

"Yes! Because my dad is a doctor!" Kota said proudly.

"Sugoiii~" The other kids started muttering.

"Then, what does Tenji kun want to be?" The teacher asked another child.

"I want to be a police!"

"Is your father a police?"

"How do you know that, sensei?!" He asked.

Soon, it was Hiroki's turn.

"Hiroki kun, what do you want to do when you grow up?"

Hiroki gave it a thought, but nothing really came to his mind. Everyone was talking about how they want to be like their dads and Hiroki felt out of place. He didn't have a dad.

"I want to be like mom." He answered.

"What does your mom do, Hiroki kun?"

"She works at a grocery store." He replied.

"Is it a good job?" Other kids asked im curiosity.

"I don't know but mom is really amazing." Hiroki replied.

"It's nice! What about your dad, Hiroki kun?" Kota asked.

"...I don't have one." Hiroki replied quietly.

"Huh? It's impossible. Everyone here has a dad!"

"..." Hiroki stared at the floor.

Was he really supposed to have one?

Living with mom is amazing and Nanami said that his dad is a Jujutsu sorcerer. He guessed it was because of this that his dad didn't stay with him or mom. Probably.

----------------

That evening, when you picked Hiroki up from school, Hiroki was unusually quiet.

"I bought your favourite mochi, want some?"

Hiroki nodded, still looking at the ground as he walked.

You gave him a packet of mochi, he took it and ate it quietly.

"Did...something happen at school?" You guessed, although you hoped it wasn't the case.

"Everyone...asked me about my dad. I couldn't tell them." He said.

Your heart almost shattered at that sentence. You should have known this would happen. Maybe if you weren't selfish and let Nanami san contact Gojo Satoru, maybe things could have changed for Hiroki.

"Mom....?"

Seeing you completely frozen and lost in thoughts, Hiroki thought he made you sad by asking.

"I'm sorry, mom. I shouldn't have made you sad."

"You don't make me sad, sweetie. You make me happy, okay?" You said to him.

"Then, why do you always fall into silence when I ask about him? Did he make you sad?" He asked.

'He did. Multiple times.' You thought. In fact, you were still not over what happened between you two nearly five years ago.

"Probably." She replied.

"Then, I don't like dad." Hiroki said, "I've decided."

You couldn't help but smile at that.
