Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Johanna's POV

Johanna hailed a cab and took out her notebook and told the driver the address her parents had been sent to. The driver agreed to take her there but she could see in his eyes that he didn't really liked driving a 14 year old girl anywhere without an adult. Maybe he thought she was going to run away of something. Once they got to the address Johanna could see her parents' car and thank the can by giving him a little tip. She slipped out of the car and sneaked up to the building in front of her.

"What was up with Cosmo today? He seemed a little strange when he jumped out off the car" Johanna heard her mother's voice and ducked behind a garbage can.

"I don't know, he gave Johanna a strange eye before looking out the window. Maybe they fought about something" Rick said and Johanna peeked out to see her parents walk into the building.

She quickly and without any noise followed them. She sneaked as quiet as she could and like always it worked. They had no idea she was even there. She LOVED following them to work, they didn't know about her secret hobby. She loved playing cop and making up theories like her parents. She was often wrong since she didn't have all the information but she had managed to have right some times, and that was all that was needed to keep her wanna do it over and over again. She was right behind her parents when she suddenly stepped on a part of the floor that made a sound. Her heart stopped and she quickly hid behind some big plants.

"What was that?" Rick said and Johanna held her breath.

"Maybe some kids running around, this is a building filled with families who lives in the apartments" Kate said and Johanna heard them continue walking. She let go of her breath and sighed with relief.

'That was close' she thought before following her parents.

Kate and Rick got into the elevator and pressed the '5' button since that's where their murder was. Johanna couldn't see what number they pressed on but she knew thanks to uncle Javi where to go. She started running up the stairs. When she got to the last staircase she slowed down and started her sneaking.

"Oh, by the way, why did Johanna take so long time this morning?" Johanna could hear her mother say so she followed her voice and found them walking away from her by the elevator."I don't know. When I got in she said she almost forgot to put down something in her bag. She said a pen but both she and I know it wasn't a pen, she hesitated before saying it" Rick said Johanna smiled nervously.

"Maybe she's hiding something" Kate said.

"Should we ask her?" Rick asked and Johanna's eyes widened.

"No. Better not" Kate said and Johanna raised one of her eyebrows.

Johanna sneaked behind them. They went inside an apartment with yellow tape and the cop outside looked at Johanna. It was the guy who used to stand there, keeping watch. She opened her backpack and took out a bag with 4 donuts, she handed it to him and he nodded. She went inside and sneaked up behind a counter. She peeked out to see the victim and to hear what her parents were talking about.

"Meet Jacob Collins, 35 years old. Shot in his back but it was this knife that killed him. Someone stabbed him in his head while he lay on the floor after the shot" Lanie said and Johanna saw all the blod on the floor next to Jacob.

"What's that?" Rick asked and bent down and took on his gloves.

He lifted a chain that looked like there was supposed to be a key, but it was broken off so no key to be found.

"Looks like a key chain. But where's the key?" Kate said and Johanna looked around her.

She saw something under the counter, that small space between floor and counter. As quietly as she could she looked in her bag and took out her own pair of gloves. She reached for the thing.

"Anything else you can tell us?" Kate asked and Johanna jumped a little at the sound from her mother's voice.

She had to stretch a little more but eventually she got a grip on the iron thing. When she took it out she smiled.

"I found something" she said proud.

"Johanna?!" Kate said and Johanna realized she had said it out loud.

Kate stepped behind the counter and found Johanna sitting on the floor.
