Kael's eyes fluttered open, groggily taking in his surroundings. He lay on a cold, metal table in a dimly lit lab. Monitors beeped around him, displaying data he couldn't understand. A faint hum filled the air, and the smell of antiseptic hung heavy.
Maya's voice whispered in his ear, "Kael, can you hear me?"
He tried to speak, but his dry throat only managed a croak. Maya's face came into view, her piercing blue eyes filled with concern.
"Easy, Kael. You've been out for a while. I'm here to help."
With her assistance, Kael sat up, his head spinning. Maya handed him a water bottle, and he gulped gratefully.
"What...where am I?" he stammered.
Maya's expression turned serious. "You're in a System-controlled lab. I hacked into their database and found you. We need to get out of here, now."
As Maya helped Kael off the table, the lab door slid open. A System agent entered, flanked by heavily armed guards.
"Maya, you're a hard woman to find," the agent sneered. "And you've got a new friend. How sweet."
Maya smiled, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Time to leave, Kael."
With a swift kick, Maya took down the guards, and they made a break for the door. The agent's eyes widened as he realized too late that Maya had hacked the lab's systems. The doors sealed shut, trapping him inside.
As they escaped into the night, Kael's mind raced with questions. Who was Maya? What was the System? And why did he feel like he'd lost a part of himself?
Meanwhile, in the shadows, Gamerboy watched with interest. These two were intriguing. He'd keep an eye on them. For now.
