A Constant Battle

Hi, I'm Lauren, I'm 16 turning 17 in 2 months and this is my story.

I grew up in a rich family, there's mum, dad, my older sister and me. Me and my parents are really close but I've always been closer to my dad, as my mother has always favoured my older sister, Abi. My mum is a housewife and my father is a doctor who is a executive at the local hospital, my sister Abi had always been the golden child, the one that got everything she wanted but I cannot lie she is very smart and wants to be a doctor, but here's the thing, so do I.

My sister is one year older than me so she's going to be attending university next year, she's constantly boasting about her grades and how she's top of her class in almost every subject. After having to hear this for years on end, I can't wait until she's gone.

Both Abi and I want to be doctors, she thinks becoming a doctor is easy and getting good grades is all that matters. Both of us are smart, it's the genes, but Abi's lacking in the social aspect. She has lots of friends but she doesn't treat them like friends, she uses them to boost her reputation and she has no sympathy. This is why my father and I have always been closer, my father having two daughters, he wanted at least one of us to become a great doctor like him. Both me and Abi want to be the one to fulfill that wish, my sister wants to become a doctor because that's what she was brought up with. It's the only thing she's ever known, but for me it's different. I want to become a doctor because I want to help people, my father has seen the effort I put into my studies and my practice and ever since he saw my face light up when he took us to the hospital for work, he realised that it would be his youngest daughter that will fulfill his wish.

If you haven't already noticed she is and always will be my biggest rival, whether that be in school, grades or socials and friendship groups.

But that's all going to change.
