The break between the first and second quarters end, and I slowly walk back out onto the court. It's Edwin's ball, and we're on defense. Before the refs can blow the whistle, Coach Rodgers gets my attention. "If things get too hard for them out there, you're going to have to take over." I nod my head, and he takes a visible sigh of relief.

The team will do fine, and if they do end up struggling, I'll handle it. I run to get in position, and Edwin quickly inbounds the ball. I have 12 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, and a steal. I'm 2/2 from three and 3/3 from midrange and the paint.

This quarter I'll focus on getting rebounds and getting assists. Edwin's point guard brings the ball up, and he calls for a pick and roll. It doesn't go that great, and he's forced to put up a bad shot. It goes off the backboard, and I leap up and get the rebound.

I turn around and see that Tyler is already past the halfcourt line. I toss it down, and it's a perfect pass. He lays it in easy, and we're back on defense. That makes the score 18-6, and I now have 2 rebounds. I stay guarding their center since I'm going for rebounds.

The point guard passes it to their small forward, who's 6'9, and he has a mismatch now that I'm no longer guarding him. He puts his back to the basket and backs Laden down. He spins around and takes a fadeaway shot. It falls, and that makes the score 18-8.

I take the ball and inbound it to Laden. I make my way down the court right beside him. I stand outside the restricted section, and I watch them run a double screen I'm not involved in. I move to the other side of the restricted section since that's the side we'll be taking a shot from.

Tyler puts up a shot, and it goes off the front of the rim. "FUCK!!" I hear him yell out an f-bomb in frustration. I grab the rebound and toss it back to him. He takes another shot, and this time it goes down. He was even contested too.

That's 3 rebounds and 3 assists in total for me. Edwin's coach is yelling for them to box me out and get the defensive rebound. It's not going to be that easy. The score is now 20-8. We shift back on defense, and Edwin's team brings the ball down the court. They run a screen to get the person I'm guarding free, but it doesn't work.

They pass the center of the ball, and I get past the screen easily. I jump up as he does, and I block his shot. That's the first block of the game. I grab the ball before it goes out of bounds, and I toss it to Laden. The rest of the team starts a transition as I follow behind them.

The easy layup is stopped, but I'm already in a position to grab rebounds. The team starts running plans, and another bad shot is taken. These new starters aren't doing so well. "STOP TAKING SUCH SHIT SHOTS!!" We all hear Coach Rodgers from the sideline, and I can't help but chuckle.

It's funnier for me than it is for the rest of my teammates. I couldn't grab that rebound since it flew right into the hands of Edwins small forward after coming off the brick. I start running down the floor for defense, and Edwin is passing the ball nicely.

They're already up the court, and before I can pass half court, they score a three-pointer. That's the sucky part about playing in the paint. You're usually the last one back. That makes the score 20-11, and they are slowly coming back. I'm not going to step in yet. We have 4 minutes left in the quarter.

I'm back on offense, and I'm moving all around the paint, making my defender tired. My endurance is so much higher than any high school player isn't even funny. Laden is dribbling at the top of the three-point line, and he's just making himself tired.

He fumbles the ball, and Edwin's point guard dives for it and gets it. "C'MON!! DO THAT FANCY SHIT AT THE PARK!!" I'm running and smiling at the same time as I hear Coach Rodgers. By the time I'm a little past half-court, they're scoring another layup. The score is now 20-13. I have 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. There are just over 3 minutes and 30 seconds left in the second quarter.
