Today we're off to another game, and we've got an hour-long bus ride. This part of being a basketball player is what I hate the most, traveling in cramped spaces. Luckily, Coach Rodgers allows me to lay across two seats until we reach the destination. "Listen up, ladies! Franklin Highschool has a great team!" They've always given us a run for our money in the playoffs.

They've got a long team. No one on their squad is shorter than 6'5. There tallest is 6'10, and he's a tough defender. Very physical and always talking. "We'll review the game plan on the bus on the way there. Make sure you're all paying attention!" I always look forward to playing against Deshawn. Not only does he defend well. He's great in the paint.

After playing one-on-one with Lebron in New York, I don't think I'll run into a tougher defender while still in high school. "Ulysses!" The lovely voice of my girlfriend stops me from loading into the bus with the rest of the players. "Don't forget about me!" The playful joy in her voice puts a smile on my face. She jumps into my arms wraps her legs around my body.

She captures my lips with her, and we share a normal nice kiss. She pulls her head away and smiles. She's a great girlfriend. "Y'know, I don't have anything to do after school today. I wouldn't mind cutting the rest of the classes to come with you..." She's willing to cut class and come to one of my games in another town on a school night.

I'll need to make sure I get to one of her gymnastic meets soon. I'd love to see her perform in a competitive environment again. I've been to a few, but not a lot of them. "You planning to follow in your car? Cause girlfriends aren't allowed to ride with the players." She loves it when I acknowledge her as my girlfriend. She unwraps her legs, and I let her down.

Before she can say anything, Coach Rodgers is sticking his head out of the window of the bus. "C'mon, Kennedy! We've got a game to win!" He's always fun of energy on game days. I turn back to Hannah, and she nods her head. I kiss her on the forehead, and I load into the bus myself. Some of my teammates give me a hard time, but I don't care. I got a girlfriend.

Playing hooky isn't something I'd normally do, but either of us rarely has a meet on a day the other doesn't. Besides, the rest of my classes today are electives, and I want to watch him play. While driving behind the bus, my phone starts to ring. I connect it to the car's Bluetooth, and my mother's voice comes through.

Mom would never approve of me dating. Hence the reason I haven't introduced Ulysses to her. She's more than overbearing, and it's weird cause normally, the father is the one to be overprotective of the daughter when it comes to boys. My dad doesn't bother me about them, mostly cause he trusts me.

The other reason he doesn't is that mom does enough for the both of them. "Sweetie, when you get home after school. I need to walk to you about something." This wasn't in the plans, but it's not changing that I'm going to the game. "Sweetie, you there?" I have to say something, what do I say. I can't think of an excuse. I've got nothing.

Before I know it, my finger is pressing the hang-up button, and the Bluetooth is disconnected. I can't help wincing and thinking about the huge mistake I've made, but there is no going back now. "That's going to come back to bite me..." As I turn onto the freeway and follow the bus, my phone starts going off again. It's my mom again, and I know better than answering after I hung up on her.

I turn off my phone and toss it onto the other seat. There is going to be a storm when I get home, but it'll be worth it. "You better play great... Oh, who am I kidding? You always play great..." Franklin Highschool isn't a slouch or pushover. Ulysses always performs great in the games he plays against them, and it'll be hard to top last game's performance.
