As I pull up into the driveway, I can already see cars from my friends at school and their families. Ulysses is the quickest to get out of my tiny car, and he immediately stretches his body trying to get the blood flow back in his legs.

I find myself sitting in the driver's seat, staring out the windshield. A person shouldn't feel this way on their own birthday, but my Mom and Dad are so controlling... I have a bad feeling already.

"You know, the sooner we handle all this, the sooner it'll be over... And I'll make you a promise."

Ulysses squats down at my window and looks at me. As our eyes meet, I already know that everything will be okay since he's here.

"You can stay at my house for as long as you want after today... You won't have to live under your parent's thumb anymore... How does that sound?"

My actions speak louder than words.

I'm already out of the car and jumping into his arms. He's basically just asked me to move in with him, and he knows that. Ellie won't mind. She's told me in the past I'm welcome to stay at their house whenever I want for however long I want.

"Now I can go into that birthday party knowing everything will be okay! I'll be able to be my own person!"

Ulysses has always been there for me, and that's not something a girl ever forgets. A quality girl anyway.

He lets me down, and we lock our hands together as we walk inside and as we do. All my friends from school scream happy birthday, and my teammates rush me into a group hug with them. Pulling me away from Ulysses in the process.

I can't help but get caught up in the moment. This is going better than I thought it would. Having my friends and schoolmates might keep my parents in check.

My smile is plastered on my face as I watch Hannah enjoy her birthday. Ellie is standing next to me as we're watching, and she's got her arm wrapped in mine. It's a nice scene.

"You know... She's glowing... It's easy to tell what you did... It's all over her... The happiness and gratification..."

My blood runs cold as Ellie starts talking. I look at her, and she just smiles.

"You should be proud! It's hard to make a girl look like that on the first try! Most of the time, it ruins the relationship... But that didn't happen to you guys."

Ellie isn't making it better by congratulating me, but I suppose it's better than asking for actual details. She's always been more comfortable talking to me about that sort of stuff.

But in all the happiness and fun, my eyes drift to Hannah's Father. And the man is giving me a death stare.

"You've just noticed it... Seems that Hannah's Father has figured it out too, and I wonder how long he'll be able to keep his anger in check... Having all these people around is probably the best thing you could hope for."

I wouldn't put hurting me past Mr. Fiona... Some people are just that crazy, and it's not something I want to deal with.

Before anything else can happen, Hannah rushes over to me and grabs my hand. Pulling me away from Ellie and taking me to her group of friends and around the birthday cake. Hannah's Mother lights the candles, and we all sing her a happy birthday.

She blows out the candles with a huge smile, and she gives hugs to everyone. And as the last one to get a hug, I'm the one that gets the longest one. And a sweet kiss to go along with it. Her teammates giggle and squeal at the PDA.

And this has gone way better than I thought it would.

But before long, I'm suddenly forcefully turned around, and I narrowly dodge a punch from Mr. Fiona.

"Dad!! What are you doing!?"

The height difference made it easy to dodge, and I'm dodging all his attacks. I don't want to knock out Mr. Fiona on Hannah's birthday... But at this rate, he's leaving me no choice.

So after, he throws another wild punch and shows no signs of giving up. I hit him with a clean left jab and right hook, knocking him unconscious in the process.

"Uh-oh."

That's all I hear from Hannah, but after a couple of seconds, she smiles...

*SNIGGER*

"HAHAHAHA!!"

She actually starts laughing. Genuinely laughing.
