Chapter 8: Why now?!!

Military Barracks, Country A.

Driving in after passing the check-in patrol, Jeffrey Williams looked out the window and sighed. Exhaling deeply, he looked at the officers all standing guard he couldn't help but be reminded of the very first day, they came under the care of the military.

Ten years ago, eight years old May and eleven years old Damien came in, the continuous shrieks from May, her health deteriorating due to emotional trauma, her sobs all night calling on he mom to come take her home. All those sleepless nights, heartbreaks and pain.

All she ever wanted was more time with her mom, even if it was for a moment but after two years, May finally picked herself up, it was painful considering her covered up life since she was born and all she had to go through and not enjoy as a young child, but she did it with a price to pay.... and they her family had to pay that price.

Since she only had the chance to see her mom in only her dreams and not even keep a picture of her after the incident of a spy from the enemy's camp, she only had herself. Even her out brother wasn't so close anymore because he had his own demons to fight but she didn't know that she pushed him away and he never tried to pull her back.

She was lost now but in her own way.... she had always wanted to be lost so that nothing.. nothing at all would bother her, not bloodshed, not pain or even loss would mean anything because she knew what she was after.

Things are finally getting back to normal but now a call for a private meeting with the man in charge of their security in this new life that they had to live in, meant nothing more than danger and that wasn't funny one bit.... but to May Williams, it sure would.

Even with what May said in this morning, he knew very well the underlying meaning to it and he was very sure she was up to something and he knew that wasn't good news in any way at all. It only meant that she was looking for the only thing that mattered most to her. Her mother.

'Sighs', "Oh God help me!!", he said wiping his tired face with his palm. Still driving in, he remembered the day, they finally managed to save May.

That day, she found cold and wet all over her and was barely breathing. Her beautiful green eyes looked dead and lost as she struggled to speak... she pale and that was when he knew that this life wasn't what she needed. She had to be protected at all costs with every measure there could be.

When she finally woke up, she wasn't talking to anyone at all, not even Damien. She wasn't even taking her meds or eating and that scared the shit out of everyone. The day she went missing only to be found on a tree trying to save a cat was when she finally smiled as she took care of it and her health improved.

After days and weeks and months, she agreed to continue to study and train. She became obsessed with computers and designed and created amazing and mind blowing inventions, but he knew something about her had changed with the way she worked with others.

She became indifferent, nonchalant and more cunning. Her every move were all manipulative and domineering like she had you trapped in her claws, literally! His little cutie pie was gone and it was all his fault, the smiles, giggles and laughter of joy and freedom were all gone and it was all because of him.

He took care of her even when he wasn't her biological father. 'But he would be worse' he thought as the car finally came to a halt. Because he was after her life. Coming out of the car, he put on his easy going smile and turned to the officer in front of him, who saluted in greeting as he nodded back him.

"Good morning, Chairman Williams," greeted Lieutenant Coleman.

"Good morning to you, too, Lieutenant," Uncle Jeff said cringing at the formal title, ' Well this is the life.'

"This way, please," Lieutenant Coleman said leading the way.

Walking through the scanners for safety measures and all they went down through a long hallway and then took an elevator that went underground.

At the ting of the elevator, the doors slid open and waiting outside was no other than, a very good friend from high school days with Uncle Jeff. Back in the day, he was the most skinniest lad among them and now Uncle Jeff still wonders how he became so burly and muscular even at their age, well kudos to military training!

" Lieutenant Coleman, you can go back to the main office, I need reports on what I gave you earlier." the General ordered to which the Lieutenant saluted and took his leave to do as told, leaving the two men with the General's right hand man.

Turning on his heels, General Daniels strode away to his office with his assistant in tow leaving Uncle Jeff behind who sighed at his grumpy attitude.

" When will you ever change, Theo, calling me here saying it's an emergency and ignoring me here, what's this, you that I am busy myself, right?", He asked trying not to get angry but was irritated already.

" Needless to think of change or whatever, this is important, very important, forgive my acting this way, but time is of the essence, so please just follow and less complain, WE NEED TO TALK!," General Daniels fired back with controlled anger as well while looking over his shoulder without even turning to look at him.

Standing between the two angry power houses of the military and business world Lieutenant Kane gulped in fear at the chilling air coming from them,' why the hell am I caught up in all this'.

Sitting the office, a safe and private space used by the General alone, the two sat facing each other in a stare that looked liked it took years for them to break contact but was just two minutes following the clearing of the assistant's throat.

Looking away in anger and nonchalantly Uncle Jeff asked," What's the emergency."

Looking back at him a little apologetically, Theo exhaled and answered," First of all, am sorry for earlier but I only acted that way because you came late and you know I like keeping to time so it pissed me off a bit."

" A bit, you call that a bit!" Uncle Jeff asked looking exasperated at his conclusion and reasoning. Even the assistant in the room pursed his lips in surprise.

"Well, am sorry so can we go back to why you're here," he asked lacking patience in his tone.

Understanding that this was an emergency, Jeff nodded for him to go on.

Turning to Lieutenant Kane, he said," You may leave us now."

Looking surprised at the command, Lieutenant Kane saluted in response and left. Although he had already been used to the relations between the Williams and the military, how they lived here, that was when he was still training, this was a surprise to him, because he knew the General trusted him, and he will forever remain grateful to all he learnt from him, but this was a first. ' Maybe it's private', he thought.

"That was cold.... don't you trust the kid anymore," Uncle Jeff asked amusedly.

"Jeff, Alexander Lee is back," Theo said looking very serious and angry.

Jeff paused. He looked at Theo in the eyes and seeing the look in eyes he knew this was no joke, hell there's no way Theo would ever crack a joke on this topic, the same reason, they were all living like this, what in world!!

Clenching his fists on the table and trying to breath evenly because of his anger, he asked with a clenched jaw," Why??! Why now?!!"

" Our intel gathered that there was news of a Lee family entourage leaving the airport on the way here. We don't know if it's him but we still have to be careful, very careful, they did all this in secret so it must be him because we have always monitored their every movement through transport means, as the others has been his delegates or family members but not him at all...."

"But....?" Uncle Jeff asked knowing that something followed the ellipsis in his sentence.

" But we don't know as of now, who boarded the plane."

Standing in up abruptly, walking back and forth an habit he had when he was thinking or confused about anything or everything, Uncle Jeff asked," So what now, what are we going to do about this situation now, why the hell is he coming back, I mean there's no way he do found out about May's...po...sssituation, right?"

" I don't know what he knows, but I know is that we have to be very serious, increase security at all costs, I don't want the kids to be endangered again, even if they can take care of themselves, we can't be so sure, that bastard, sold his soul to the devil just to take revenge and is now a threat to us, I just wanted you to know and I am taking this up with the authorities, I think it's for the best." Theo answered.

Stopping his striding, Jeff nodded in approval and asked," Is there anything we can do apart from security? I think we can help to check the footage of the airport, you Damien and May know how to...''

"Stop right there, do you want to alarm them of what is happening, I don't think we should," Theo disagreed.

" What!! You want me to hide this from them too? No way, there's already so much secrets and it is right here, okay," Jeff fired with wide eyes at his suggestion while placing his hand on his throat.

" Alright, alright,I know that it's too much for you, but it is for me too, I can't even tell my own s..., you know what we will do this together, work with what you have from your side and I will work with my side, is that okay," Theo finally relented because knowing Jeff everything was already tiring as it was with the company, family, May's rebellious behaviour and now this!!

After agreeing on what to do,Uncle Jeff rushed out with General Daniels with him as he received a call from his secretary on his way up.

"Any problem in the office?" Theo asked looking worried.

"Nothing your s... Damien isn't handling, I just need take of some trash and everything will be settled." Jeff assured and with one Theo already knew that he was mad beyond compare with the way he held his shoulder to tap him assuredly.

Who wouldn't be with everything he had to lose in this fight that started twenty years ago and yet he sacrificed everything for a child that wasn't even his but the enemy's. ' I will do whatever it takes to stop him this time, even if it takes the last drop of my blood.' He swore in his heart as he watched his car leave the courtyard.
