Seventeen-year-old Josie Brennan survives Lakebridge High by staying invisible. Between her mother’s addiction, financial struggles, and relentless bullying, her only escape is Unfiltered, an anonymous blog followed by thousands who never know the girl behind it. Everything changes when she becomes entangled with two captains. Drew Callahan, the school’s star quarterback and hockey captain, has loved Josie in silence for years. But protecting his fractured family and reputation means staying quiet while others tear her down. Maxwell Thorne, Blackbridge’s elite hockey captain, offers her a deal: a fake relationship for protection and convenience. No feelings. No complications. Just survival. But survival never stays simple. A public kiss, a humiliating rivalry, and a dangerous arrangement pull Josie into a storm of attention and consequences. As secrets from Unfiltered surface, friendships fracture, and hidden histories of betrayal come to light, exposing how deeply their lives have always been connected. Years later, Josie is forced to face both men again, now changed by time, power, and loss. One represents stability and loyalty. The other represents a love that never truly disappeared. With a child, a contract marriage, and buried truths colliding, Josie must choose between the man who stayed when she broke… and the man who never stopped loving her in silence. Two captains loved her. Only one stayed when she broke. And from the wreckage of everything that came before, something real finally had room to grow.

I started this story expecting a typical high school romance, but it quickly became so much more. What makes this book stand out is that the love triangle actually feels real. Neither male lead exists just to make the other look better. Drew and Max are both flawed, both lovable, and both have legitimate reasons for why readers might root for them. Every time I think I've chosen a side, the story gives me a reason to question myself. Josie is also one of the strongest female leads I've read in a long time. She isn't perfect, but that's exactly why she feels authentic. Watching her navigate bullying, family struggles, friendship betrayals, first love, and self-worth has been emotional and incredibly rewarding. The friendships are just as compelling as the romance. The conflict between Josie and Becca feels painfully realistic, and some of the most emotional moments in the story don't even involve romance at all. The family dynamics are equally well done. Caroline, Emmy, Gabriel, and the rest of the cast feel like real people with their own lives and struggles rather than side characters who only exist to support the main plot. Another thing I love is how the author handles consequences. Characters make mistakes, and those mistakes matter. Nobody is entirely right or entirely wrong. Every major conflict has layers, which makes the story feel mature despite being set in high school. The hockey scenes are exciting, but the real strength of this book is its characters. The emotional moments hit hard because the author takes the time to build relationships and let readers become invested in them. If you're looking for a romance with genuine emotional depth, complicated relationships, believable character growth, and a love triangle that will keep you conflicted until the very end, this story is absolutely worth reading. One warning: be prepared to get emotionally attached to everyone. Even the characters you think you'll hate at first.
