Mia's life had changed a few years back. Maybe her reality would have been very different if she had never had her son, but having her boy was never a regret.

She had been a single mother for 8 years now, with routines now more than engraved on her body and soul.

The story of how it came to be was as ridiculous as one could expect. A university fling gone wrong.

Truth be told, when she met Nyck, the idea engraved on her brain was that he was perfect. After a while of dating, she convinced herself that the man would be her future husband and the person she would end up having kids and growing old with.

The whole fairytale story was more than conceptualized in her silly mind.

Out of those dreams, the only thing she ended up getting was the 8-year-old boy that she now had under her responsibility and calling her mother.

It still hurt to think that she had placed all of her trust in one man, given everything that she could to him, and in the end, being the one used as a doormat.

She didn't regret having Alexander, he was the light of her life and motivation to live every day to the fullest.

It didn't mean it was easy in the beginning.

Mia dated Nyck for almost a year before trusting him completely with her body. She had been a virgin until college and was very wary of her father's warning about men.

They had met in an introductory class in law school, both freshmen in the chaos that was university life.

Having a friendly shoulder to lean on during the obvious difficult times was something anyone would crave in those moments.

When they first met, she had no idea why Nyck started speaking to her in the first place. He came from a highly prestigious family and was quite popular from the very start of the semester while she was the poor girl under a scholarship.

The attention had been nice, she liked it as much as any other girl, especially when the man giving it to you was so popular among the ladies

Still, after a whole year of dating, she caved under the pressure that he consciously or not had been placing on her for a while.

Mia felt as if sex was something that was necessary to have a relationship, even if she wasn't sure about being ready to do everything.

Turns out she wasn't necessarily wrong.

Nyck was her first and last and for a decent reason. She indulged him whenever he wanted her, but it was never an activity that she was too fond of.

The girl understood that it was good for her boyfriend, but for her, it was more uncomfortable than anything. She always blamed it on not being fully comfortable naked around him, even if they had been dating for a whole year.

Indulging him wasn't necessarily hard either, it never lasted too long either way.

Her dad never liked Nyck and in the end, every single fear he had of the man turned out to be true.

The pregnancy was obviously unplanned and it wasn't due to lack of protection either.

Even if her boyfriend wasn't too fond of condoms, Mia had placed that as her only term for them to keep having sex.

How it happened, she wasn't sure, but the lack of menstruation and the obvious nausea had been the first signs that something was wrong.

Mia was shocked with the result of the test, her mother by her side soothing her cries and helping her accept this very new reality.

The worst of it all, telling the news to Nyck was probably the worst day of her life until now.

"A child? I can't have a child!"

"Well, you made it... It's your responsibility too."

"I don't care. Deal with it! I can't have a baby!"

"But!"

"No, Mia! Can you even imagine what my parents would say? No!"

"I can't have an abortion."

"I'm not going to be a father. If you want to do this you will do it alone!"

"You said you loved me!"

The man stopped in his tracks and thought for a few seconds before breaking her heart.

"It was always just a bet anyways"

She was confused by his words but later found that the only reason why they ever dated was because of a stupid bet. Nyck wanted to prove to his stupid friends that he could take her to bed and managed to win after a while year. Mia had been so dumb...

The girl considered abortion more than she was proud to admit, but given her reality at the time, it had been the best choice.

It has been the close relationship with her parents that turned out to be her salvation in the end.

A child would be a burden that she wasn't financially or mentally prepared for and yet, her parents' support and unwillingness to kill her baby were the reasons as to why Alexander was now in her life.

Being pregnant during her university years was a nightmare, especially when everyone knew who the father was and her future life as a single mother.

She had known from the start, that he wasn't on board, and even if his money had been convenient at times, Mia knew that doing this alone was probably better for her child too.

Truth be told, if it wasn't for her incredible parents, she doubted she would've been able to do anything. After Alex was born, they would watch him when she was in classes or tests and it was only due to them that she could finish Law School and fulfill her dreams of becoming a lawyer.

8 years later, she had a successful career and her son was brilliant, just like she had been once. Thankfully, he took more of her than his father.

The only obvious reminder of his father and how he came to earth were his expressive blue eyes that were just like Nyck's.

And it was exactly because of Alex that Mia's life took a turn once again.
