As of Ch. 225 I’ll be honest I’m a little torn on my thoughts on this novel. I shall explain why.
First of all the overall concept of the novel is great, author does well to make sure there are no plot holes in terms of the MC’s decision making or how he advances in strength. The pace of the novel is also good, it’s fast enough that you can enjoy the progress and also understand what’s going on. The word count for every chapter is also really long, and finally the storyline itself is GOOD.
I’ll be real though, there’s a massive info dump in this novel. It’s not very noticeable early on but as you hit the later chapters, it goes into extreme depth with the MCs thought process, reasonings behind his actions and then over explains everything that’s happening.
I, for one, don’t mind info dumps if they’re done correctly. But that amount I’ve read, and where the story is currently at don’t add up. It becomes a pain to read at some point because you can see the MC being fleshed out and improving with every chapter but in the grand scheme of things the MC is literally going from a power level of 10 to 11 and the people he’s catching up to are sitting on 100. (This is an example, not a spoiler).
The crazy part though is that because every chapter is condensed (and long which I like), you can’t help but think that the story is progressing well when in reality there’s not a lot happening (much like DBZ fight).
Sigh aside from the insane info dump, the only other thing I can point my finger at is that things that happen in the novel seem erratic and displaced. For instance, the MC will be breaking through a stage, and then the POV will randomly switch to his senior sister going through her own troubles, and then it’ll switch to some random disciple from a different faction talking with his faction friend etc.
This just led to me skipping over some sections because I was just more interested in what was happening with the MC and I think that takes away from what the author was trying to do. Ultimately, the problems I’ve mentioned aren’t super big and can be improved upon and I think it’ll make the nocel much easier to read.
If you’re considering reading this novel just go ahead and have a read. It does start a little differently that most other novels like this start but the storyline starts to get interesting after the first few chapters (I think 10?).
My brain hurts.
