I like how he is still the same person but his personality has a subtle change. When he was b rank he felt he couldn't accomplish anything so he was lazy and wanted to live a quite rich life of a countryside noble but after seeing a chance to rise, he actually is trying to size it and is willing to work for it. I mean... I know it would "seem" like anyone would do that but how many people can get rid of old habits built through your entire life? He even let go of simple comforts like a bed and just slept on the floor of the library and is now willing to go to a obviously dangerous place to chase his chance to rise up. That fact he did this the moment he found out he has talent shows just how much desire he has to actually accomplish something despite being so seemingly carefree.
