"Ha?!!!!"
"Shhhh!" Madam Yang held her hand to her lips as she asked her maidservant to keep silent.
"Mistress, isn't this too dangerous?" The little servant girl couldn't believe her mistress wanted to join the investigation of a criminal!
"Madam, what...what if things aren't as simple as they seem? It's not like house management, or like running a store or two, it might cost someone's life!"
Looking at her personal maid, Gu Anxi smiled. "I know this..." what's more she didn't even know who exactly her husband was looking for, but as his wife, who should be the closest to him, she didn't believe she couldn't get this simple piece of information. Besides, she had already guessed who it might be.
"Don't worry, I'm not stupid. I wouldn't do anything that'll cause the General's manor any harm."
Her servant creased her brows in worry, "Then what does madam have in mind to do?"
Gu Anxi smiled. "I need to first find out the brothel my husband talked about, then everything would work out."
"But...but..."
"Aiya, don't worry, look at me, right now my body is weak, even Mother (mother in-law) doesn't allow me to do much work, much less allow me to leave the mansion." Gu Anxi said, her smile held a special meaning. She knew her maidservant's worries. She wouldn't do anything that would harm the General's mansion. This task she had given herself, she considered it to be giving a helping hand to her husband. Of course she wouldn't admit she just wanted to win a bet, if not, where would her face go if everyone learnt of this stubborn side of hers?
"What exactly does Madam want to do?" The servant was really confused, her mistress wasn't going herself, would she send people to go instead? But wouldn't it be easier for the General to find out about her plan?
"I'll ask Second Cousin Brother." She had a proud smile as she said so.
"...?"
Gu Xietian?
'Didn't Mistress hate him?'
For the first time Gu Anxi really appreciated this cousin of hers. There was not a single brothel he had not visited. She especially hated this about him, to her, this type of attitude was disgusting and despicable especially when he already had a wife and two concubines, if her uncle hadn't been real strict with him, how rotten would he have gotten, but who would have thought this side of him would come in handy one day?
Her second cousin brother doted on her a lot, though she didn't like him, wherever he went he would always remember her and bring something back for her. When she was younger, her relationship with him was especially good, who didn't like such an older cousin brother. After all she had no brothers from her father's side. The whole Gu family lived together, it wasn't too unusual for cousins to play together and take each other as direct siblings she and Gu Xietian were once like that, but as she got older and began to understand how society worked, she began to despise him.
During that time he had left the capital, and so they didn't get to see each other, when he returned she had been married off. He was really sad when he heard the news, especially when he knew the groom was General Yang.
After that he had come to visit her, but she had refused to meet him, giving an excuse that she was unwell. She hadn't heard from him since.
She just hoped that less men like him would exist in their world, thankfully, the man she married apparently didn't have such attitude. It was mainly because of this that she was willing to tolerate him so much. Deep down she actually respected Yang Chenning. His actions were mostly childish. But once he made a decision he wouldn't change his mind easily. She really admired this decisiveness of his.
"How is Madam going to contact him?" If she once hated her cousin, then he should have realized it by now, in that case would he be willing to help them so easily.
"Directly." She said a matter-of-factly.
"..."
"Go get me ink and paper, and I'll write a letter to him right now."
Gu Anxi's servant felt that though in this lifetime she managed to serve such a kind and considerate mistress, she still found her hard to serve, since she couldn't understand what was going through her mind most of the time even after serving her for so many years. She was easily attracted, easily bored, suddenly happy and present, suddenly sad or absent-minded, she made decisions on a whim, so much so that it scared her! What was even more frightening was the fact that once she had made up her mind, it would be hard to talk her out of anything. If she said she was doing it, even if you cried tears of blood she won't mind you.
"Yes." With that she quickly left.
Dear Readers, Author here.
I'm really having fun writing HSDRTBN, but I've been getting busier and busier these days, and so I decided to give this story a fixed break, two weeks. Sorry for those who would really want to know what happens next. But here's the good news, after the two weeks are up, I'll do a mass release of 4 chapters (Sorry if it's too little... I also wish I could do more).
Thank you all your support.
