Heart-rending

Cadmus was trying so hard to remain calm even though his blood was starting to boil inside him.

"Like hell you are. Why don't you just come out and say it? Why don't you just say that you've never given a damn about me? Why don't you just tell me that you never cared? Why don't you say it to my face already? You hate me," he ranted, unable to help himself. "You've never paid attention before, so what the hell could you possibly say to me now?"

"I don't hate you, Cadmus," his mother said, making him freeze in place. "You're my son. I can't hate you, nor can I bring myself to."

Cadmus gritted his teeth, hands clutched together. "Oh yeah? That's what you say now," he scoffed. "You don't have to lie to me. It's okay if you hate me because I won't care." Yet for some reason, Cadmus still bothered to say all of these.

"I don't hate you, and I'm sorry for everything."
