You Cannot Be Serious

The demon blinked up at Azariel suspiciously when he finally awoke. "Why did you treat my wounds?"

"I told you before; I wish to help you. Can you tell me your name now?" she asked with a cheerful smile. She fluttered above his bed and was currently kneeling in the air looking perfectly at ease.

Ianor, who was here to make sure the demon didn't hurt his charge, was not. He was tenser than a bowstring but it was impossible to dissuade her when she wanted something. Even the king hadn't been able to stop her from bringing an unconscious demon into the palace.

The demon muttered his name begrudgingly. "Zarath."

"Zarath what?"

"Just Zarath. Demons do not have surnames. Those are meant to distinguish families, are they not? Families are not a demon concept either. There is not even a word for it in Mazaroth."
