“Level with me.” Tuck looked her in the eyes. “You know that Ruth had her outside contact do a check on you.”
Cam feigned surprise. “A check? What for?”
“We’ve had spies in here before, trying to figure out where the dope was coming from. We tend to get paranoid.”
“So you checked on me ‘cause I used to be a cop?” Cam let her anger show.
Tuck nodded. “We check on everyone. I just want to warn you to watch your back. A lot of people are getting really paranoid. I almost suspect you myself.”
Cam stared at her. “And?”
“I said almost. I know you’re a dyke and I can’t believe, in my heart, that a dyke would rat on other dykes. Hell, we got enough to watch our backs for without suspecting each other but something’s wrong around here and I’m starting to suspect everyone. I’m trying to keep an open mind.”
“If you suspect I’m a spy, why warn me? Why not just watch and see if I hang myself.” Cam stared into Tuck’s eyes.
