Both nodded and got up to leave.

“Andrews. Stay one minute more.”

Ruth waited until Douglas had gotten to the end of the hall.

“I really need your eyes and ears more than anything,” Ruth told her in a hushed voice. “Something’s happening here I don’t quite understand. We should have been told about that shake-down and we weren’t. I can’t tell if our friend was lying to us or if she really didn’t know it was coming. Just be on the alert.”

“I understand,” Cam told her. Ruth’s slap on the back let her know that their meeting was over.

Walking back to the party, Cam felt a rush of adrenalin. Yes! She was in! She wished she could call Maggie and gloat a little about it. So, Ruth wanted her to watch and listen. Ruth didn’t know how well, or how thoroughly she was going to do her job. 22
