After a moment of silence, Evan asked quietly, “Can you forgive me?”

“For yellow tights?”

“No, for bringing the FBI into this and ruining the wedding and not being honest with you.”

Danny turned to Evan. “And you don’t know about my mother’s contract with the Dwyers?” He was staring intently at Evan now.

“No, the only contract she showed me was the prenuptial agreement.” Evan held his breath, desperate for Danny to believe him.

Danny put his head back and laughed, deep and long, but it didn’t sound very joyful. “Well, I have a surprise for you. And for Mother.”

“Wait, before you say anything else, Danny, please tell me, are we okay?”

Danny pulled Evan to him, hugging the man close. He whispered, “Yeah, we’re more than okay. We’re married, and we’re going to stay that way. And I’m going to save you, and you’re going to save me, and we’ll give the yellow tights to Katie. She’ll love them.”
