“Okay, I guess not.” Evan leaned back in his chair and smiled innocently.
After a visible struggle, she recovered her composure and took the offensive. “When did this happen? Pastor Evans left immediately after the FBI arrived. If you managed to trick my son into some hole-in-the-wall ceremony this afternoon, it can be annulled. And I assure you it will be.”
“Um, sorry, Mother, but we were married last night, in a full ceremony with witnesses and all the proper documentation.” As an afterthought, Danny added, “And we officially—and thoroughly—consummated the marriage afterwards. It’s a done deal—we are married. For life.”
“Last night! Why didn’t you tell me?” Her voice was shrill.
“As you said, Mother, sometimes a little discretion can be very worthwhile.” Danny was enjoying this so much.
