Taking his silence as tacit agreement, his mother smiled. “And that brings me to the last item—your tuxedos. I’ve made an appointment this afternoon at one o’clock with Rene at Favreau Brothers for the two of you. Please be prompt. And so that you can keep that appointment, I’ve asked Henri for an early lunch.”
Right on cue, the maid, Marie, appeared in the doorway and announced that lunch was ready anytime they wished.
Nessa smiled. “Thank you. Please see that Vera is informed as well.”
Danny raised his eyebrows. “Aunt Vera is joining us?”
“Yes, Danny. I think it best that Evan and Vera meet for the first time under private circumstances. It might be awkward, and we do not need an audience. Now, please escort Evan upstairs so that he can freshen up. I’ll expect you both in the dining room in fifteen minutes.” Nodding regally, she made her exit.
Evan turned to Danny. “Who is Aunt Vera, and why are you surprised she’s having lunch with us?”
