She smiled at her son. “Danny, it’s good you could join us. I need to finalize the guest list. Although I will handle the family and business invitations, you must give me a list of any friends or employees from the publishing house that you wish to invite. And please get it to me today.” Turning her attention to Evan, she began, “And you, Evan, must do the same. As to your family, I assume your mother will be attending?”
Evan’s face was shuttered. “No, Mrs. Carmody, my mother will not be there.”
Nessa just stared at him, obviously waiting for an explanation. When none was forthcoming, she asked, “Are you quite certain?”
“Quite.”
She wisely let it drop and moved on. “Are there any friends of yours or business associates you’d like me to invite?”
“Just my assistant, Lacey Thomas.”
Looking surprised, she assured him, “Of course, I’ll send an invitation to Ms. Thomas, but aren’t there others you wish to have at the wedding? I assure you there will be room.”
