Kalos Vacation Part One

When morning came, Death left with Esdeath, Leaf, and Valerie, and soon passed through a gate to Lumiose City in the Kalos Region. They appeared just outside of Professor Sycamore's laboratory, so some citizens were fairly shocked, but with a 'Kadabra' accompanying them, they quickly brushed it aside and decided it was a psychic Pokémon thing.

Death was fine with that.

Esdeath led the way into the laboratory, and Death, who walked between Valerie and Leaf, walked in behind her. They were meeting someone that Valerie respected a lot, so they acted professional and were not resting against his arms right now.

The Laboratory was small and did not have a lot of resources, due to the fact that no one was believing in his research, though Death suspected he'd get a better laboratory and more resources once people accepted that he was right.

The man they found working inside with only the company of a single Pokémon had black hair and teal eyes, and was fairly young for a Professor, but Death wasn't going to judge. The Pokémon he had with him, it turned out, was called Flabébé and was a fairy-type.

"Professor Sycamore?" Valerie asked.

Augustine Sycamore looked at her "Ah, you must be Valerie Maché? Welcome."

"Yes sir. It's an honor to meet you." Valerie insisted cheerfully "We've identified some more Fairy-type Pokémon, and even brought some with us." Valerie then called out her Mr. Mime and Leaf called out he Jigglypuff.

"You mentioned in your letters that you believed Mr. Mime was part fairy type, so that was already on the list. Snubbull and Jigglypuff will be added. Now that you are here we can run some tests for verification, though." Sycamore answered cheerfully.

"According to my own research, Snubbull is pure fairy type, as is Cleffa, Clefairy and Clefable." Death explained "Igglybuff, Jigglypuff, and presumably also Wigglytuff are duel-typed as Normal and Fairy. Mr. Mime and presumably it's pre-evolved form, Mime Jr is Duel-typed, Psychic and Fairy."

Sycamore looked at Death "I don't believe we have met. As I guess you already know, I am Augustine Sycamore." he offered his hand to Death for a shake.

Death accepted his hand and shook it as well "While I never was formally educated to be a researcher, I have went to great effort to be self-taught. My name is Death Rose."

"Before I met him, Professor, he was already researching Fairy-type Pokémon. Death coincidentally dubbed them Fairy-type because the first Pokemon he discovered that was Fairy-type was Clefairy." Valerie explained to Professor Sycamore "He wanted to bring his notes to my brother Bill, which is how we met. When he heard about you, Professor, he decided to come with me to meet you. He also discovered Snubbull was a Fairy-type and caught my Snubbull for me in Alola."

"Just like Valerie, I have a gift for comprehending Pokémon at a glance. When I say Clefairy for the first time, I did not know what type it was, but I understood that it definitely was not normal type like I was taught, so I kept studying the species from there, and once I named it Fairy-type I started looking for other Fairy type Pokémon and Pokémon moves." Death explained to Sycamore.

"Sounds like you'd make an excellent research assistant, but sadly I don't have the funding to hire anyone." Sycamore confessed.

"That's fine." Death insisted "I already told Valerie that I'd join her on her journey to identify every Fairy type we can. It's her dream, and I'm going to support it, regardless of whether or not there is money in it for me. We'll plan, of course, to keep you informed on everything we learn. After all, after hearing the hell Valerie went through growing up because no one wanted to believe her about Fairy types, I want very much to prove them all wrong."

Valerie couldn't resist herself and kissed Death on the cheek "Thanks"

"Can you leave these Fairy Pokémon with me for a couple days while I do my own tests to verify their fairy typing?" Sycamore requested.

"Well, we are planning to spend a couple days touring Kalos, so sure." Valerie agreed "I'll trust you to take good care of them."

"Sure." Leaf agreed, deciding to trust the Professor as well.

"What's this?" Death asked, suddenly spotting a small and peculiar bead-like object. This bead was quite colorful, going from pink to purple to light blue to green and finally to yellow, and had a bizarre symbol on it. It was just laying on a counter amidst the professors notes.

"Oh, that's something else I wish to research, but haven't had the funds to do so. It possesses an unusual energy, which is all I know so far." Sycamore insisted.

"Can I borrow this for a bit? I might possess something related to this stone, and I'd like to test that out, after our vacation of course." Death requested. "Well, as my unofficial research assistant, I can let you have it." Sycamore offered "I have one more, after all. If you learn anything useful, though, please let me know."

Death nodded "Certainly. I can do that." he agreed. He only intended to borrow it since he was certain that he could copy it with Arc of Embodiment if it was useful, but if the professor was going to give it to him he wouldn't turn it down. Besides, he could always return it when he 'finds' his own. Besides that, he intended to share anything that he knew either way.

He put the odd pearl into his pocket "Well, ladies, I hear that Rhyhorn races are really popular here in Kalos. Want to go check one out?" he suggested.

------

POV Yvonne Gabena

She was seated at a Rhyhorn Race track with a Fetchling resting peacefully on her lap when she saw a handsome boy approaching with three girls. Two of the girls, who seemed to be around her age, seemed quite close with each other, while the boy was holding the hand of an adorable little girl with Black-red hair. While the last girl, or more accurately woman, since she seemed to ne older and had the most humongous breasts Yvonne had ever seen, seemed more like a bodyguard, watchful for any threats. Yvonne wasn't sure what kind of threats they were expecting at a public event like this, but she was not going to judge "Hello" she greeted them as they sat next to her, since their group had taken seats next to her.

------

POV Death Rose

When he brought the girls, including little Summer, to the Rhyhorn race, he let Valerie choose where they would sit, and she of course went to the front row. This in itself wasn't surprising, but right after they were seated a girl that was next to them said "Hello" while seeming quite cheerful.

She had long hair which was a darker shade of blond and light blue eyes, and wore a cute red dress and a pink hat For some reason Death got a vibe like she was someone important, though he wasn't sure why he thought so, aside from maybe her having a great body, but he didn't thing that was why he felt she was important.

"Hello, I'm Death Rose. Unusual name maybe, but it's my name so I deal with it" Death introduced himself

"My name is Yvonne Gabena, but my friends call me Y or Serena" the girl explained to them "i have never cared for Yvonne as a name, so I generally prefer Serena. I think it is a much more beautiful name."

"Then it's a pleasure to meet you, Serena" Death answered her while little Summer was climbing up onto his lap only to wrap her little arms around his shoulders as best she could and to relax.

"This adorable little one is Summer Rose." he introduced the little girl to Serena.

"Oh, is she your sister?" Serena asked with curiosity "It is nice of you to bring her along with you."

"Nah, I basically adopted her. Her parents died, but previous to that I was adopted into another branch of the Rose family." Death explained to Serena. He planned to let her assume that they were cousins, since he couldn't say that he basically adopted the same woman that had adopted him, only a version of her from another world. That was not something he could just disclose to random people he had just met.

"I see." Serena answered, genuinely surprised that someone that appeared to be her age had the maturity to take care of a little girl, though from looking at Summer's behavior, it was obvious that he was very dear to her.

When Prime Ruby or Yang were around, Summer would instinctively switch into mother mode, Death guessed that this was due to the bond between a mother and her children being so strong that her instincts kick in, but at all other times she was basically a normal little girl who hadn't experienced much of anything yet.

While he did not bring her to meet Professor Sycamore, he had planned to bring her a long with them for the next few days to see more of the world and to have some fun and new experiences. He couldn't just leave her in Lyonesse or his Ranch dimension and expect her to grow up well, after all.

Serena, despite not knowing the full situation, was still impressed with Death way more then she was with that lazy guy, Calem.

"I've never seen you at one of these races before" Serena commented "Is this your first time at one?"

"Yeah, it's our first time in the Kalos region in fact." Death said to Serena, smiling "We're here on a vacation and wanted to see some of the local culture before the big match."

"h, you are going to watch the match between Miss Diantha and the Champion?" Serena guessed.

"Indeed, how could I possibly miss that? If she wins then she'll be the new Champion of the Kalos region.

"Diantha will put up a good fight, I'm sure, because her Gardevior is an incredible psychic-type Pokémon, though I'm not sure she will stand much of a chance against Dallas and all his dragon-type Pokémon." Serena insisted "I'll certainly be watching it and cheering her on, though. Maybe she'll surprise us all."

"Well, I'll also be cheering her own as well, and I suspect that she may surprise you" he knew that the Ralts line (except Gallade) were on the list of Pokémon that Sycamore had confirmed were Fairy-type, so this was a great opportunity to help him prove the typing existed in a very public manner.

Likely, if this went as Death expected, the Kalos Pokémon League would be forced to accept the existence of Fairy-type Pokémon, and then it was a matter of time before the other regions did the same.

Professor Sycamore was focused on his research and hadn't even considered the possibility that he might be able to take advantage of this upcoming duel, but obviously Death had thought about it. After all, he had worked his ass off to create a stable and unified government on his Remnant, so he had learned to play the political game a bit by necessity.

Political positioning used to annoy him a lot, though he grew numb to it over these past decades, and he was not above taking full advantage of it

"Where will you be watching it?" Serena asked with curiosity.

"We will be guests of Professor Sycamore, so we'll be attending the battle live in Lumiose City" Death admitted to Serena.

"Really? That's amazing!" Serna answered excitedly, though she had not followed Sycamore's research career, she respected researchers in general.

"Maybe we can get you in as well, if you don't mind keeping us company until then?" Valerie suggested "You can recommend places we might like to visit so that we can make the most of this time."

"Well, I'd have to ask my mom since I'm not 17 yet, for another half a year at least, but she'll probably be okay with it." Serena answered, hoping to convince her mother since she thought it would be amazing if she could be there live to watch the battle."

------

The race started and they all watched together, with Death dividing his attention between the race and keeping little Summer happy. He was looking like an amazing father and amazing boyfriend material to Serena.

Normally Serena would be more focused on the race, but today she was half distracted by thus group of strangers, with particular emphasis on Death and Summer. Unsurprisingly, the winner of the Rhyhorn race was her mother, Grace Gabena, though she was favored to win since she was the number one top competitor in this sport with more then three times as many career wins as the number two in the history of the sport.

"They said the winner's name was Grace Gabena?" Leaf suddenly asked following the winner announcement, then she looked at Serena "Isn't that your name?"

"Yeah, that's why I attend so many of these races. She's my mother." Serena explained while standing up "Lets go meet her."

Death nodded ad stood up, careful not to wake up Summer, who had fallen asleep two-thirds of the way through the race, fully prepared to carry her until she woke up on her own. Summer was, after all, do tiny and adorable, so he'd never complain about such a little task.

Serena, meanwhile, only grew more and more interested in Death as she saw how well he treated Summer, and subconsciously compared him to the guys she spent time with in the past. As far as Tierno went, he couldn't compete with how handsome Death was, and trevor just focused a lot of studying and didn't have much in the way of personal skills, while Calem was handsome but lazy and unreliable.

There was that boy she met back in Kanto when she was 6 years old as well, but logically speaking Serena had no idea what he was like. Sure, he had a kind heart back then, but was that still the case? How smart was he? How reliable? Was he lazy like Calem, or lacking in interpersonal skills like Trevor?

Before she met Death and his friends, Serena might have went looking for that boy in the future, because she just hadn't found any boys she deemed as acceptable before, and he had been her first crush, but now she'd met someone she judged to be a perfect guy, so maybe it was okay to move on and consider dating now.

She still couldn't figure out if Death was dating anyone, though, and she was too embarrassed to ask.

Just to clarify again, while the anime is a part of this world, it'll also incorporate bits and pieces from the mangas and games as well, hence you shouldn't assume that characters will be identical to their anime selves, as is the case with Serena here. Like her manga counterpart, her first pokemon was a fetchling and her personality will be a bit of a mix between her anime and manga selves.

Additionally, like her manga counterpart, she already knows Calem, Shauna, Tierno and Trevor, even though Calem never appeared in the anime, just like how Leaf never appeared in the anime. Since they are vacationing in Kalos, of course I'll take the opportunity to cross paths with some Kalos-based trainers, even though Serena here is just a bit shy of 16 and a half years old, so she has just over a half a year before she can begin her adventure, though her 'plan' is to wait until hr 4 friends are all 17 as well to start it, hence it will be around the time Death begins his Kalos-based journey.

This chapter is shorter then planned because it wasn't the complete intended chapter. I only really worked on it Sunday and wasn't feeling well the last two days. As a result, you get a slightly shorter chapter this time around Next Chapter sunday.
