good first chapter! It does a great job of catching the reader's interest! My only critique would be that you should try to stay away from the Passive Voice while writing. IE using "had" instead of active verbs, not only is writing in the passive voice tricky for writers but it makes it little harder to read!

This is interesting. I am tempted to read until the end.
