Chapter 34

Serena figured it was time. For a more than a month now she'd thought over what Courtney had told her in her bedroom about not needing any more pain either. She was already feeling the fatigue and strain from her heart. Getting out of bed took effort, she was depending on her oxygen tank more at night, and ignoring the man across the way took too much out of her. Her heart, broken as it was, wanted what it wanted.

It was time to be honest with Jake.

She found him in his workshop behind the barn. It was a metal roof held up by four posts and no walls. Brown Eyes was a few feet behind him and stopped chomping on hay long enough to look at her. As if it took the horse a few minutes to recognize her, she glared at the disruption, and then started trotting over to her.
