Well the tripping over the stone rolling over the picnic, was actually not so bad. He could have invited them to a meal as an apology for ruining their picnic. At least then he has a foot in the door. But in my experience it's hard to get a girl out of a group. They tend to stick in their herd if their goal isn't to get it. And alone it would be hard to have one of them stick out ready to be catched by the tiger.
