He needs to calm down and look at the bigger picture, compassion and respect breeds trust while fear and intimidation breed terror.
Just an index finger? I think it was a very light punishment for who wanted to cut both arms, at least they should cut off a hand or two thumbs and destroy her face. In my opinion, this too light punishment ends up making his attitude contradictory. He completely discarded his own father's teaching, even her arrest would be more severe punishment than an index finger.
