Chapter 8: test

"You want to learn ninjutsu?"

"Yes."

"You've only been at the academy for a month, have you even started the leaf concentration practice?"

Kida asked Miyagawa skeptically, who shook his head gently in response.

This practise method involves placing a leaf on an individual's forehead and directing their entire chakra onto the leaf, using it as a focal point.

This exercise is used by Academy teachers as a way of teaching students how to control their chakra more effectively, it is particularly effective on children who are just learning to use their chakra but in reality the real purpose of the exercise is to sharpen the individual's concentration and prevent their mind from being distracted.

"The teacher taught it to us but I didn't need it."

Kida heard this and sighed, he too had been a child, he could understand the desire to learn flashy techniques and become strong but being in too much of a hurry will only affect Miyagawa's foundation, learning ninjutsu, genjutsu and taijutsu must be done meticulously.

"Son, I know you're eager to learn new techniques but you must first learn to effectively control your chakra ...."

Kida who was beginning to teach his son the proper procedure suddenly fell silent as he saw Miyagawa get up and walk to a corner of the room before walking on the wall quietly as if gravity no longer had a hold on him, he easily walked to the ceiling above his father while giving him a smile.

Kida's eyes widened as his mouth remained wide open and he slowly lowered his head, smiling.

"It must be a hallucination haha it's impossible."

"My hopes for my son surely blind me."

"Father I'm real."

"It's a hallucination so real, haha he talks exactly like Miyagawa haha."

"Father I am real!!!"

In the silent living room Kida and Miyagawa faced each other with serious expressions.

"So you learned to walk on the surface of trees."

"Yes and also on water but with my current amount of chakra I can't last long."

"...."

Kida hearing this was again incredulous but thinking back to the shock he had a short while ago, he quickly accepted his words.

Walking on surfaces is a training method used to gain more skill with chakra control.

This training consists of concentrating a fixed amount of chakra on the soles of the feet and using it to climb a tree without using one's hands or walking on the surface of the water, if the chakra flow is too weak, the user will lose his footing on the tree or water and fall.

This is a rather difficult training intended for genin who have graduated from the academy and passing it shows a good level of chakra control.

"I see, son, calling you a genius may be an insult to you."

"Wait for me."

Kida sighed as he stood up while stroking Miyagawa's hair and headed for the stairs.

Soon after he returned holding a red scroll and sat down in front of Miyagawa whose eyes were shining.

Kida saw his son's eyes and couldn't help but smile, he bit his bleeding thumb and then opened the scroll and put his thumb on it.

A whitish smoke emanated from the parchment from which a dozen scrolls emerged.

"This is all the jutsu your mother and I have collected in our nineteen year career."

He took out a small piece of paper from his yukata and handed it to Miyagawa who took it curiously.

"It's a test paper to see what your affinity is, it reacts according to the latent nature of your chakra, inject your chakra into it."

Miyagawa hearing this, injected his chakra into the paper which quickly wrinkle before became damp.

"Water and lightning, I see."

Kida seeing the result of the test took four scrolls and handed them to Miyagawa who accepted them happily.

"Thanks dad!"

Miyagawa stood up happily preparing to go up to his room and read the scrolls before his father stopped him.

"Son."

"Yes father."

"Avoid demonstrating your abilities as you just did, the village is in a chaotic period."

Miyagawa hearing the seriousness in his father's voice nodded slowly with understanding.

"Yes father."

He ran up the stairs leaving Kida with a slightly colder look in his eyes.

"With his talent, he's bound to get into trouble, but hey, a father is there to prevent that kind of trouble."

"Dad what are you doing?"

Seeing Mizuki walking into the living room, his cold look was replaced by a smile.

"Look at you you're all dirty, come on it's time for your bath."

He tucked the rolls into his red roll and put it into his yukata and took Mizuki in his arms heading to the bathroom.
