05. Brains and Drool

Fuck, this felt surreal.

This is what dreams felt like.

Except this was not a dream.

Soren threaded his hands into Noam's hair, and it felt very real. He wasn't making up hallucinations or dreaming up this moment. He couldn't feel any sort of pain apart from a slight pressure under his throat where Noam kept him in place with his arm, it was a defensive move and Soren immediately realized Noam was still doing the same thing as he always used to do. Going easy on him despite the fact that he was much stronger and capable. Well, they'll see, for that fact now that both of them haven't met each other for a long time.

But yet…

His lips were still the same, the same comfortable feeling that almost felt like home but he couldn't kid himself, because Soren never knew what home was and he wouldn't know for a very long time. Noam pried Soren's lips open with his own and ran his tongue over his, the kiss quickly getting sloppy by the minute.

"Ren…" Noam mumbled, parting the kiss to stare down softly at Soren, his cheeks growing flustered with the slightest tint of red. He must have had fresh blood not too long before his hands felt exceedingly warm against Soren's cheeks, unlike a vampire's cold hands. Soren stared at the man hovering on top of him with plain eyes, his hand stealthily moving south.

"Ren" Noam called again, pressing his body closer to the Lycan's.

Soren rolled his eyes and thought, this horndog. He quickly slipped his hand to his holster and retrieved his gun, loading it swiftly as he raised it up. He pressed the cold metal barrel hard against Noam's temple, without ever breaking eye contact with the vampire. He hesitated for a moment as he saw the look on Noam's eyes, regret mixed with affection. But it all disappeared immediately as Noam put on his snake-like smile again, silently daring the lycan to go ahead with it.

"I missed you." He smiled until his eyes squeezed close.

"Well, that makes one of us." Soren said, suppressing yet another urge to roll his eyes as he willed himself to press his finger down.

The trigger immediately set off the gun and a loud bang resonated through the street. His ears twitched in complaint to the reverberation echoing from the shot and Soren stared at the body which felt limply on top of his, suddenly growing heavy and limp as Noam fell unconscious, a part of his brain spewing out at the side of which the bullet left his head. Soren grunted as he hauled the body off from his own.

"Fuck," he retched in disgust as he wiped the spongy baby pink matter off of his white shirt, not noticing that Noam's body fell with a considerable thud at the side. Soren glanced at the body and then to his wristwatch. Good, it didn't take too long, he can clock out now.

"What the fuck?!"

Soren looked up, currently picking his coat up. His brows raised ever so slightly in the lightest form of surprise.

"Oh." He mumbled, realization coming over him as he looked over to the voice, "You."

Reya gapped at the new recruit in shock, his hands over his face, slowly dragging his skin down in despair. He was in deep trouble. Precisely, the new recruit was in trouble but thanks to the fact that he was in charge of this guy, he was going to get an earful too. Shit, what if it's not an earful? What if it's more than an earful? What if he gets suspended? Without pay? What if he gets fired? He has been on the force for ten years and this is how he goes?

"You shot him! You shot a client!" Reya yelled out, throwing his hands over his head at a loss.

Soren simply glanced at him as he dusted his coat off, examining whether it was still intact after he threw it on the ground at the spur of the moment. He frowned as he noticed a slight fraying at the hem, shit. He looked closely, this couldn't be. This was his only good coat and he wouldn't probably be able to afford one until the next paycheck. Working for the stupid government was good and all but they didn't exactly pay Lycan secret service agents very well. He had to scrape by just so he could afford proper meat for his diet.

"Hey, newbie! Are you listening? What will we do now? You know what, forget it. I wasn't here when this happened, I was out. I was not here, I was getting coffee. Leave me out of this!"

"Tch," Soren threw his coat over his shoulder as he walked past a fretful Reya, who was busy frantically conjuring up lies to save his own ass, "He should get me a new coat."

"You're leaving?"

"Oh god. Chill, will you?" Soren said, looking back, "He's not dead, he'll be up in about thirty minutes. Stop busting your ass over this. Besides, he won't probably say anything to the boss so you don't have anything to worry about."

"Worry?" Reya squeaked, scoffing, "I am not worrying. Not at all! You know what? Great job dealing with that vampire, why don't we go around for a round of drinks and fresh meat? Laugh about how you trashed our client without hesitation?"

Something happened immediately, Soren's face seemed to blink on like a light bulb. It looked as though his dog-ears perked up, even though it wasn't there, Reya could see it in his mind over Soren's messy dark hair.

"You paying?" Soren mumbled, saliva beginning to pool around his mouth at the sound of fresh meat. He has been resorting to canned meat for a while now, thanks to the fact that he had no savings and had to live off his small severance pay and he didn't lie when he said it tasted like absolute shit. Canned meat? More like canned trash.

"I…was..just…" Reya stuttered, tripping over the great expectant look on Soren's face. I was just being sarcastic, he wanted to say but he couldn't bring himself to say it. He sighed, scratching his head. What the hell? Why can't he take this kid to dinner? What was stopping him anyway? He badly needed a drink too. He might as well slip in a lecture so that he wouldn't get in trouble. Why was he so aggravated over this anyway? He didn't beat up any client, it was just the new guy and it was his first day at the job. He can just pin all the blame on this guy anyway, he didn't seem like the type to care.

"I'll pay but you have to agree to my terms and conditions." Reya said, walking towards Soren as they marched ahead, falling into a comfortable pace with each other. People began to slowly approach the street, cautiously looking around. They immediately jumped away when Soren walked past them.

"Terms and conditions? For eating meat?"

"What? Pfft, no. Eat as much as you like. I meant for my job. Just take me off as your supervisor and stop jeopardizing my job."

"But i haven't jeopard—"

"If you finish that sentence, I will cut the meat away."

"Understood."

"Oh, there's…there's something on your face. On the right."

"Hmm?"

"Something….gooey? What is that? Is that from that guy's head?"

They didn't ever turn back to look at the mess Soren left behind.

The body laid on the ground for a while before the click of heels against the ground echoed against the ground. The frown on Noam's face came first as he gained consciousness and then a groan followed as the blinding aftermath of what Soren did to him rang through his body. His head pulsed and thundered against his skull and he moaned in pain, his body tossing as he took control of his muscles again. Damn, that lycan surely is not fucking around. He didn't see any light of hesitation before he pressed the trigger. Quite on the contrary, it seemed as though he enjoyed the thought of blowing Noam's brain out. Of course, Noam didn't expect any less of it when he arranged this meeting. He liked the thought of uncertainty of the future that held him in a chokehold. He had already known not to expect anything less than what he got from Soren today but yet still…

Yet still he keeps on wishing for a change to dawn upon them. He keeps wishing that something would change.

He stared straight up at the sky, the stars blinking back at him. Then a head appeared in the field of vision and he sighed, throwing his arm over eyes.

"You came."

The lady smiled, crouching down beside him. She was a small frail lady about the age of thirty with sleek white hair and a barely wrinkled face. She looked truly youthful for someone at her age. She sighed, reaching out to softly swipe the hair out of his face.

"What is it now? What has happened?"
