Babysitting

Georgina inserted the key into the hole, turned it till it made a clicking sound, then, she pushed the door open. The living room was empty as usual. The kids were probably still sleeping upstairs. Today was a Saturday, after all, and not a school day. She walked into the house, closing the door behind her. Then, she moved towards the stairs, proceeding to climb through it. As she climbed, she heard someone call her name.

"Georgina."

She turned and saw Ella standing at the bottom of the stairs. She quickly jogged back downstairs. "Oh, Ella, I didn't know you were still around. I thought you had somewhere to be," she said.

"Oh, yeah, I do. I wanted to you to be here before I left," Ella answered as Georgina approached her. "The kids are upstairs, still sleeping."

"I kind of figured that out," Georgina laughed.

"Want a cup of tea?" Ella asked.

"Yes, thank you." The two of them headed for the kitchen. Georgina waited, standing and leaning on the wooden cabinet while Ella picked up the boiling kettle and poured the water in it into a mug. Georgina watched as she dropped a teabag in the hot water. "So, when will you be back?" she asked.

"This evening," Ella replied. "The party is in the evening but I'll try to leave early."

"Oh, it's a party?" Georgina asked, as Ella poured a tin of milk into the cup of tea.

"Yes, we are throwing a party for my cousin."

"Oh," Georgina intoned as if she understood.

Ella glanced at her. "My cousin, Adrian King."

"Oh."

"You know him right?"

"Yeah, yeah." Who didn't know Adrian King? He was always on every newspaper and magazines one of the richest and most famous celebrity. He was even once listed on Forbes Under 30. "Yeah, I know Adrian King. I just didn't know he is your cousin." But that kind of makes sense – she completes in her head, as she stared around Ella's large and expensively furnished kitchen.

"He is," Ella said as she handed the mug to Georgina.

"Thanks," Georgina muttered.

"Anyway, he and his parents are throwing a party and they invited me and Kevin," she said. Kevin was her husband. "They wanted me to come with the kids but I don't think I should."

"Oh." Inside her jean pocket, Georgina's phone vibrated. She dug her hands into the pocket and pulled out the phone. Switching it on, she saw it was a missed call from her friend, Kyra. She switched it off and placed it on the counter.

"Thank you for coming, Georgina," Ella said. "I know you have better things to use your weekend for."

Actually, she had nothing to do this weekend except hang out with her friends. "It's alright, Ella, I don't mind."

"Okay, so, I'm going to send your payment to your account before I go," Ella said, moving out of the kitchen and Georgina followed behind her. "That's okay, right?" she asked and Georgina nodded affirmatively. "Great. Thanks again for this, Georgina. I owe you," she said as she grabbed her bag from the table in the middle of the living room.

"Bye," Georgina said as she watched Ella leave the room. Ella was a thirty year old woman and mother to two kids – Joe and Phyna. They had met two years ago, the first time that Georgina babysat the kids and Ella had instantly taking a liking to her. Ever since then, she had been babysitting Ella's kids when necessary.

Georgina stood in the living room, a few seconds after Ella had gone. Unsure of what next to do, she slid on the couch and turned on her phone. Her phone beeped as a notification appeared, saying that her Kyra had called again. Georgina dialed her number, waited a few times for her to pick up. "Hey Kyra."

"Hey sweetie, I've been calling you!"

"Yeah, sorry. I was with Ella."

"Babysitting?"

"Yeah."

"Oh, too bad. I was hoping you would like to come out with me today," she said, a sad tone in her voice. "You've been working hard this week, you deserve a break," she told Georgina.

"Yeah, but Ella really needed me. Besides, she is paying me, so..." Georgina trailed off, shrugging her shoulders.

"Okay, you know what? How about I come over and help you babysit?" Kyra asked. "And maybe later on, the two of us can take the kids out?"

"I don't know, Kyra," Georgina hesitated. Ella wasn't really fond of Kyra and Georgina wasn't sure if she would like her around her kids.

"Oh, relax. I know Ella doesn't really like me and that's okay. But you said she isn't around, right? I just really want to spend some time with you."

Georgina let out a small groan. "Okay, fine, but you have to behave yourself," she warned. Kyra could be really wild at times and honestly, children and Kyra were never a good mix.

"When do I ever do the opposite?" Kyra asks and Georgina lets out a sarcastic snort. "Okay, l'll be there in a few," Kyra announces and hangs up before Georgina can reply.

------------

By the time Kyra arrived an hour later, Ella's kids – Joe and Phyna – had woken up, Georgina had bathed for them and they were already eating. There was a knock on the door and Georgina rose to her feet to answer it. Immediately she pulled the door open, the first thing Kyra said was, "Have you seen the latest news?"

Georgina rolled her eyes. "Good morning to you too, Kyra," she said, stepping aside for Kyra to walk in before she closed the door.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Kyra waved her hand dismissively. "So, get this, Adrian King is throwing a party today."

"Yeah, I know," Georgina answered, rolling her eyes again as she brushed past Kyra and walked back to the children on the table.

"He is throwing a party! He's throwing a freaking..." Kyra's voice trailed off and she stared at Georgina in shock. "Wait, did I just hear you say you know?" she asked, her eyes dramatically wide.

"Yes."

"How do you know?" Kyra demanded. "Ever since I've known you, I've never heard you say you know the latest gist."

Kyra was right. Georgina was never the type to keep up with news and celebrity's lifestyles on the internet, unlike Kyra who took her precious time stalking celebrities on social media just to know what they were up to.

Georgina shrugged her shoulders as she sat in between Joe and Phyna. "Ella told me."

Kyra frowned. "Ella? How does she know?"

Georgina hesitated. "Okay, I don't know if I'm supposed to tell anyone this but she is cousins with him."

"She is cousins with Adrian King?" Kyra asked, her jaw dropping in shock.

"Yeah, that's what she said," Georgina said.

"Shut. Up!" Kyra exclaimed, rushing over to Georgina. "You are joking. Tell me you are joking."

"I'm not. She told me this morning and she said she was attending the party. That's why I have to babysit the kids."

Kyra shook her head. "Nope, nope, nope. I don't believe you." She stuck her hand in her jean pocket and brought out her phone. Georgina watched as she scrolled through her phone furiously. Then, she knelt in between the kids, holding her phone out to them. "Joe…. Phyna, look at this picture. Do you know who..."

"Uncle Adrian!" Phyna shrieked, pointing to the picture on the phone.

Kyra's gaze snapped up to Georgina who gave her a simple but indifferent shrug. "Oh my God, she isn't lying. They are really related. Wow," she said as she struggled to rise from her feet. "Wow. That's so….shocking." Her face suddenly brightened up as she stared at Georgina. "Hey! Maybe you can convince Ella to introduce us to him. That will be so..."

"No, not happening!" Georgina snapped.

Kyra shrugged. "A girl can only dream," she said. "Is there anything in this house for someone to eat?" she asked as she grabbed the cereal on the table.

Georgina snatched if out of her hands. "Drop that. It's for the kids."

"Fine. What else is here for me to eat?" Kyra demanded.

Georgina sighed, pushing her chair backwards and rising up to her feet. "Fine. Let me just check the kitchen."

As she walked into the kitchen, Kyra called after her, "So, have you heard what your lookalike is up to right now?!"

"No, I don't care!" Georgina snapped at her, adding as she walked into the kitchen, "We do not look alike!" she rolled her eyes as she entered the kitchen. Kyra was always claiming that she, Georgina, looked like Daphne Rodriguez which was just stupid because Georgina was so sure she looked nothing like a spoilt, pampered, heiress to a multibillion company. As she opened the cabinets in the kitchen to look for something to cook, the image of Daphne Rodriguez flashed through her mind again she frowned.

'Look alike, my ass,' she thought.
