Later, after eating with everyone besides Meier- who was already thrown out under tears by Jace, Paige sat in her new room and tapped on the laptop Lance gave her. He said she had a few days to write her report for the military, but she wanted to be over with it.

She described how she lost consciousness after Lance had, how she woke up on a bed, she described the outlay of the building as far as she knew, the grass hills, even the bird she had seen and couldn't identify.

Then the eyeless people, the way they couldn't talk and seemed as if controlled fully by the system.

Then she thought longly.

Would they let Lance know if she wrote down that they cut off her toes? She was unsure.

It was true that she had to tell him someday, but she couldn't speak it out or let him see for now.

When Lance left the room while she was contemplating, she finally had time to ask the internet about him.
