Glimpse

Both Trissy and Noke watched TV for some time. Trissy walks to her room, bringing back a set of diary and pen. His mother worked as a part-time writer and a full-time owner of a small coffee & bakery shop, they owned, which is next door. She told it her kingdom: 'And of course, she is the queen.' She didn't like to call herself the queen, but it is only in front of her son 'Noke'.

...

After making herself comfortable, she started writing, 'most of the time lost in her thought.' After some time passed, she tilted her head to look at Noke as if she remembered something.

"Noke."

"What?" Noke didn't flinch, and neither he looked in his moms' direction. He remained motionless, lost in the movie. This makes Trissy angrier.

"Ah... Mom. What? " Trissy foot landed on his left shoulder, putting him out of the motionless state.

"Be more respectful. "

Rubbing his left shoulder with his right hand, he looked toward her mom and said," What order do you have, my queen? If..."

Trissy didn't make him finish his saying as another foot landed on his shoulder.

" Sorry..., sorry, mom."

"Rony came by the last day. He left your bag and other stuff. It is in my room. What? don't look at me like that. I didn't even touch it."

"Oh... I forgot to ask. Did he say anything else?" Knowing the behavior of his friends, he can't have simply left with only greeting.

"Nah."

"Oh." He can't visualize how this could have happened, but thinking about the previous day, the event far exceeds the limit.

" Noke. Look, I am working on a new story."

Trissy moved closer to Noke, putting her diary in front of his eyes so he couldn't see anything except the story she wrote in her diary.

" Mom. Act like a mature woman. You are already old. Those child acts don't suit you."

He starts making fun of her mother. In the morning, she pranks him many times through her word. It isn't easy to find a chance to make a joke. 'Though it's a legit statement'

It isn't some complex mathematical equation to understand what behavior Trissy is going to take. Her cheek turned red reflecting her anger.

...

Sitting on the sofa, he looked at his mother, now standing on those cushy seats. She grabbed Noke hair with one hand and moved her leg to kick Noke.

" Mom. It hurts. Seriously, I am not kidding."

" What you said? Say it again."

" Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean it. "

" You didn't? "

" Sorry, Mom. Give me your diary. I read it and give the points you need. OK?" Trissy moved her eyes and gazed down to look at her son.

'Did, I overdo...' She doesn't want to accept her mistake. Figuring out to make the best excuse to come out of this predicament.

"Darling, because I am the most merciful queen in this realm, I'll let it slide. Your mortal eyes struggle to grasp true beauty. Consider this your final warning. The next time you dare cross the line, I might just have to playfully pluck those eyes out. Keep it in mind, my foolish mortal. Hahaha..."

Noke heard his mother's laughter and felt the urge to tease her further. However, recalling the recent scolding or beating, he abandoned the idea. Instead, he uttered the sentence his mother always loved.

" Thanks, merciful queen of heaven. All Hail Queen Trissy... "

A delightful expression appears, listening to her son's words.

"Better. Remember mortal. I am going this time, I can hear the heavenly rays of suns': shouting, asking for my presence."

" Queen Trissy? Your holy writ." Noke reminded her mom of the diary she carried in her hand as she headed toward the terrace.

"Oh... Catch."

Noke shifted his upper body slightly forward to hold the flying diary. After holding the holy Writ: mean diary, he glanced at the place where his mother stood a second ago, but now only thin air awaits.

...

Noke looked at the diary his mother used to write different stories. Using his finger to hold the thread— one end tied to the back, the other disappeared amidst close pages. The diary opened through the middle, and he saw a soft bookmark stuck there. The left page is written fully, whereas the right one only contains some lines of text. The left pages moved, making an arc shape covering Noke's right hand, which he rests in between those pages. The other hand holds the diary in its position. Turning the left page to go where the story begins.

"Reading from the start, it contains a title; looking like some fate-weaved lore: 'One Life - Two Being.'

It's a story of two guys. They work as partners in the police investigation team. The bond in-between those is pretty solid: more like a brother.

One of the people likes to watch matches and movies. They are currently working on one of the lost child cases.

Jake, who also works as a leader. He chided Jason, who is currently engrossed in his phone, still seeing her favorite actress movie.

Jake doesn't want to waste more of their time, so he gives a major spoiler about the movie that Jason is watching. Jason lost control as he gave chase to beat Jake. Running, they come to their destination for further investigation.

Both exchange photos of the child they are looking for. In one of the photos, the child looks happy, while sad in the other one.

"As the year passed, they conducted their investigation at different locations."

Jake and Jason are still together after a year. They are working on a different case. They walked as they passed different small alleys. Jake knew different shortcuts, and he led Jason. Thus, Jason currently followed Jake.

"Ho, ho..."

Bam...

...

Both of them hear someone's voice and a firing sound. They increase their pace, moving closer to the voice. They are still in the alley when a rundown building appears.

Jake put the gun in one hand, and the other hand moved closer to the doorknob. He slowly opened the door to not make any noise. Jason does the same. As both of them entered the hall, a table surrounded by chairs in the middle and a small cell in one of the corners.

Two people, one male, and the other female sit on those chairs.

The person sitting on the chair chuckled, " Newcomer. New project."

Bam...

...

He fired in the direction of female. Jake tried to maintain his composure, but he was soon startled by another firing. The head of the man is gone, and the female might already be dead.

Looking toward the direction where the firing sound came, he saw Jason holding a gun with both of his hands.

Jake doesn't know why he does it. He wants to fire, too, but not to kill the other person directly. Jake thinks that the situation may frighten Jason too much, due to which he fired without any other thought.

He stares at Jason. He opened his mouth to ask Jason why he did it. But before, Jason moved to point his gun at Jake's face.

" Sorry, Jake. I didn't want to kill you. I.."

Bam...

...

...

Only one person breathing remains in the rundown building. He walks closer to the female side, lifting her head through her chin. Her eyes still opened, showing a frightening and confusing look. He tightened his grip, holding the female small ivory chin. Taking the last glances at those eyes, he let go of the female head. Her head hung, covering her face with her silky-smooth hair.

He walked towards one of the corners where he saw the cell.

...

A dead body of a small child is on the floor covered in his blood. He knows the child's face. They searched for him many times during the past year. Running his thoughts to recover last year's memories, he remembers the woman's face, too. She is the actress and mother of the dead child, whom movie they had watched together.

A self-defeating laugh escaped; his inner self completely shattered. It was a laugh that masked an inner cry; small drops of tears fell to the ground, silently expressing the depth of his emotions.

He cleaned his face using his shirt as he walked out of the building.

...

...

Coming out of the alley, he sees some children playing themselves. He buys cookies and distributes them among the children. With a satisfied look, he leaves.

Leaving back all the bad memories, he walks in a carefree manner with a goat alongside.

...

...

'Hmm. End? Fuck... what did I just read '

"Mom. Mom..."

Noke runs upstairs, coming to the terrace. He sees his mother basking in the sunlight.

"Mom. What's this?"

"What?"

" What's with the ending." Noke increases his tone.

" Why? Didn't you like it?" Trissy moved her body to look at her son's direction, who is standing in front of the terrace door; a little angry.

"Like? It doesn't make sense. Why does he kill? And what with this 'Goat walking alongside.' ??"

"Ah, why are you reading that? It's not complete yet," said Trissy.

"So, what am I supposed to read?"

"It's the previous one – 'Demon,'" said Trissy nonchalantly. She looked frustrated. Moreover, she hadn't done anything; it's Noke who is more frustrated, as he has read a draft about which even the writer isn't sure.

"How am I supposed to know? You could have told me. And what's relevant on your mind, Mom? These things aren't your taste. Why are you still digging into it?" asked a concerned Noke.

"It's just a hunch, an intuitive thought. Thought, why not write it and see what fruit it bears. Ah, it looks like it's not my cup of taste," Trissy lamented, turning around and not looking at Noke.

"Ah... Mom, I'm not currently in the mood to read back the draft 'Daemon.' I will read it another time."

"Do whatever, just go. You are disturbing me," she shook her hand, making a gesture to leave the terrace.

Noke was left dumbfounded. Seeing her mother not interested in any further talk, Noke was left with only one choice – to remain there or go down to continue watching the movie where it left off.
