"Love Notes and Secret Glances"

Throughout my journey into adulthood I had many crushes and many funny stories. SOME are more memorable than others. Like the first crush, the first love letter.

My next-door neighbour!

Loving a girl twice my age, is a funny remark but as Jamie Lannister says, We don't get to choose whom we love".Love is truly a remarkable thing that gives beyond age ,religions and class. I met her on accident and it gave me a purpose.

One day, I was at the terrace, playing cricket with my brothers when something caught my attention. As my eyes looked upon the open window of the building next door. I managed to take a glance at someone. She was a fine woman in her late twentees, while I was just starting my teenage years. She was a woman of great beauty and intelligence. But there was something about that captured my eye. It was her cute gestures and sweet personality that was symbolic of a fine woman. The way she wore her glasses was just too cute to handle. After that day,I began to go to the terrace at regular intervals, just to see her. Being a next-door neighbour was advantageous for me. I could at some times observe her ,right from my floor.

The first time i saw her through the window was the day, i realized her true beauty. It was about sunset, the slowly fading sun fell down upon her hair, giving it a soft glow, with the gentle breeze that was blowing north east of the city just seemed to dance around her, as if to celebrate her charm and her cuteness. She was deep inside her book with no sign of distraction or inconvenience. The way she adjusted her glasses was a sight straight out of a romantic novel. I could not help but admire the way she adjusted her glasses and gently put her hair aside in a never seen elegant way.

Every day, I continued to steal glances at her from the terrace, or even my floor, whatever was convenient for me, but I never had the courage to approach her directly. Firstly, because she was older than me and secondly, I was too naive at that point in time. I used daydream thinking about a possibility when i am at the same class as her and i become her best friend. And she begins to like my humour and charm. In that dream, i could have been the man of her dreams.

One sunny afternoon, when i was on the terrace secretly watching her through the corner of my eye, she suddenly looked up and happened to catch me in the act. I thought it was all over for me,but to my surprise, she smiled at me at waved me saying hi!. She told me that she saw me at the school, and in that day a sweet romance bloomed. From that day on, we exchanged greetings whenever our eyes met . She always greeted me with a sweet smile on her face. It is through our greetings and interactions that our conversations gradually become more frequent and meaningful. Through our interactions, I got to know that she was in the second year of her college.

One day, there was a function at our building. Everyone was dancing with the rhythmic sounds of the music. But I had to clue about anything. But then I saw her watching us from her window. She was curious to see what function we were having. And in that instance, I just happened to be dancing, but without moving. My head and hands collaborately moved with the songs that were being played while I stood still. The moment my eyes met her, I felt shy and stopped moving for a while. She called me ,and I rushed to answer her from our building. People nowadays talk about long-distance relationships, well ours was a in-between two buildings relationship. She liked my timid personality and my sense of humour. She often used humour related synonyms when she used to talk to me.

One day after my class was done, I came back from school. But looking at her window, i realised she was not in her room. So I kept waiting, and in a restless attempt, I sent a flying kiss in her direction. Guess what!, she saw me. I was too nervous when I saw her giving a sweet smile when she saw it, and i just went back inside. In the upcoming days, I tried to avoid having eye contact until she initiated her conversations once again. She always complemented me, on how I talked and how sweet I was. And as a young kid, hearing this from your crush was a big deal.

Days changed, and i lost the connection, as i moved further into adulthood. I got the news that they were leaving as her marriage was fixed. I did not know this at first, but one of our servants, who used to work for them as well, told us about the story. Anyway, she was married off, and the floor on which she used to live was now an empty place. All that remained now was the joyful and sweet relationship we had built over the years. Maybe it was not love but affection towards each other that I had towards her.
