Chapter 16

Keira's POV

I stared at his calm features, he looked tense, "I'll miss you dad" I said

He had his favourite suit on, I dropped a single rose flower on his chest, and watched as the coffin was wheeled into the furnace, dad always wanted his body to be turned into ashes and sprinkled into the oceans.

Zoe was on her wheel chair, looking really emotionally drained, she had been training since she was 4 to be a certified gymnast, only to have her biggest dream snatched from her.

Mom couldn't stop the tears from rolling down her eyes, and I didn't blame her.

In less than two months I've lost two loved ones.

I wheeled Zoe to the car, me and mom helped her while she drove home

When we got home, the house was really quiet, everyone had entered their different rooms, no one had the appetite for anything, Mom specifically had lost lots of weight because she hadn't been able to eat enough lately.

I layed on my bed in dead silence, my eyes glanced through my room randomly until it landed on mara's camera laying on the top of my laundry basket.

I wasn't ready to check the content of the last video yet, but I'm certain the truth had to be in it, I lazily got up and picked up the camera

"Am I ready?" I thought to my self.

Just when I was about to click play, I heard my phone blare loudly, it startled the hell out of me.

It was Maddie calling.

The weeks leading up to dad's funeral, Maddie had been of great support to me and my family, she paid half of the funeral fees, turns out she's a really nice person, she just needed validation, seeking for affection from the wrong attention.

She had fallen deep in love with Carl, and surprisingly Carl had fallen in love with her too

Maddie-: "Hey Keira"

Keira-: "hey mads"

Maddie-: "how're you?"

Keira-: "to be honest with you, I'm tired"

Maddie-: "this should be really hard for you I'm sorry about everything"

Keira-: "(sighs deeply) it's okay, thanks for calling, I appreciate

Maddie-: " it's okay, but I need to show you something real quick"

Keira:- " what?"

Maddie:-" can I come over tomorrow?"

Keira:-" sure, that's okay"

Maddie:-" okay, see you by 3 tomorrow, bye"

Keira:-" bye"

I turned off the camera again, like I've always done whenever I muster enough courage to watch it.

I took our my black attire and slipped a hoodie on, I went to Zoe's room to check up on her.

I knocked thrice, no response, I walked in to Zoe's back at me, she was looking out the window, the light breeze ravaged through her beautiful brown hair, "Zoe?" I called out to her.

"Why does the universe hate us?" She asked

The question hit me hard

"Zee, I doubt it hates us" I said as I picked up a comb from her side table and begun combing her hair

"It fucking does!" I'm never going to get married or have kids of my own" she said as tears streamed down her cheeks.

"Who's gonna marry a girl without an arm!?" She said with hurt evident in her voice

"A fat bunch of people zee, you're beautiful" I said and hugged her.

"I wanna show you something" I said

"What?" She replied as she wiped her tears

"It's a surprise" I said

I put her hair in a ponytail, did her edges and helped her dress up" I put on a pair of jeans and wheeled her to my car.
