Her Lifeblood, His Deceit
The day of my bonding ceremony with my Alpha, Jeremy Morgan, was finally approaching.
We had already postponed our bonding ceremony eight times.
Not because he’d broken his promise, but because I hadn’t managed to forge enough emblems bearing the resonance mark.
The Morgan Pack has a tradition.
Every Luna chosen by the Moon Goddess must first forge nine emblems from her own lifeblood, each etched with a resonance mark.
But no matter how careful I was, one emblem would always mysteriously disappear just days before the ceremony.
This year, it had nearly cost me everything, but I finally forged the ninth emblem.
Overjoyed, I rushed to find Jeremy.
But through the half-open door of his office, I heard his Beta say:
"Alpha, Freya has been waiting for eight years. Do you actually plan on completing the bond with her?"
Jeremy’s voice was unnervingly calm.
"I promised Dahlia I wouldn’t go through with the bonding ceremony with Freya this year, either."
The Beta hesitated.
"What if Freya has managed to forge enough emblems this time?"
Jeremy was silent for a moment, then he clapped his hands.
A shadow wolf materialized and then leaped out the window.
Before long, the shadow wolf returned, a gleaming emblem held gently in its mouth.
Jeremy took it, crushed the mark without a second thought, and sighed.
"Freya is resilient. She could hold on for another ten years, not just one."
"But Dahlia is suffering from a berserker curse. She only has me left, and all she wants is for me to be with her in her final days."
"I can’t bring myself to refuse Dahlia, so Freya will just have to suffer a little longer."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
So, all those emblems that had mysteriously disappeared… he had destroyed them.
We were fated mates.
Becoming his mate had always been my dream.
But if he never intended to bond with me, then I had no reason to cling to him any longer.
