Karena rasa cinta dan kagumnya kepada Indonesia, Adi memutuskan bahwa dia akan tinggal dan menetap di Indonesia setelah lulus kuliah nanti. Adi mengutarakan keinginan itu kepada kedua orang tuanya. Namun ayahnya menentang keras keinginan Adi, karena suatu hal yang sulit untuk dia jelaskan. Adi kebingungan dengan sikap ayahnya, dan dia pun bertanya kepada ibunya. Ibunya menyuruh Adi untuk menemui neneknya agar dia bisa mengetahui cerita secara keseluruhan tentang masa lalu keluarganya. Ketika Adi berbicara dengan neneknya, beliaupun menceritakan bahwa ternyata alasan Ir.Suryo beserta anak dan istrinya menetap di Inggris adalah untuk mencari perlindungan. Karena Ir. Suryo yang dulunya adalah seorang pejuang kemerdekaan pada saat masa pendudukan jepang, telah difitnah melakukan penghianatan kepada bangsanya sendiri dan juga teman seperjuangannya. Setelah Indonesia merdeka, Ir. Suryo dimasukkan kedalam daftar pencarian orang oleh pemerintah Indonesia pada saat itu untuk dijatuhi hukuman.
