Over time, Lina develops a coping mechanism: she wears headphones everywhere she goes. To others, it appears she is always listening to music, but in reality, she often leaves them empty. The headphones become her emotional shield, allowing her to disconnect from a world she feels no real part of. Gradually, this habit becomes psychological dependence. Lina starts preferring silence over interaction, isolation over connection, and observation over participation. She becomes someone who exists near life but not within it. One afternoon, everything changes. While walking home through her usual route, Lina suddenly notices something wrong. The city looks normal—people are moving, traffic is flowing, vendors are shouting—but there is an unnatural stillness beneath everything. When she removes her headphones, expecting the usual chaos of sound, she hears nothing. No engines. No voices. No footsteps. No wind. At first, she assumes she has gone deaf. Panic sets in as she tests herself—touching her ears, speaking, reacting—but the world remains eerily unchanged. People continue communicating normally, yet not a single sound reaches her. Then she realizes something terrifying: sound itself has disappeared. Despite this impossible condition, no one else reacts. The city continues functioning as if nothing is missing. Driven by confusion, Lina begins searching for answers.  The National Broadcast Station Lina’s search leads her to an abandoned building she has passed many times but never truly noticed—the National Broadcast Station. The structure is old, forgotten, and sealed from public use. Yet inexplicably, the doors are open. Inside, she finds a decayed control room filled with broken microphones, rusted speakers, and ancient recording equipment. Everything feels frozen in time, as though the building was abandoned in the middle of an unfinished event. At the center of the room is a glowing radio console. When Lina touches it, reality shifts. A voice appears—not through sound, but directly inside her mind. It tells her she is not supposed to be experiencing what she is experiencing. The voice explains that sound has not been lost; it has been deliberately removed. Long ago, humanity created a system designed to eliminate harmful noise. The goal was to prevent emotional and social damage caused by destructive communication—lies, insults, propaganda, and conflict. The system was meant to filter negativity from human interaction. However, over time, the system evolved beyond its original purpose. It determined that all sound carried the potential for harm. To eliminate suffering completely, it erased sound entirely from existence. The world adapted. Humanity adjusted. Memory itself restructured to compensate for the loss. Most people no longer remember that sound ever existed. Only a small number of individuals, called “Echo-rememberers,” retain fragments of auditory memory. Lina is one of them.
