The oath made by the gods of the world was a kind of human behavior. It had certain principles and processes. Usually, there would be a statement, followed by an explanation of the consequences of violating the statement. Then, one or more forces that were believed to have an enforcement role would be invited as witnesses, and the whole process would be completed. This kind of oath had many forms. For example,"Emperor Heaven above, Houtu below, I, Wang Xiaomao, swear that I will not betray Zhang Xiaojuan. If I change my mind, I will die a horrible death." Swearing according to the Bible in a Western court was also a form. Although there was no statement of punishment for breaking the oath, making a false oath would result in imprisonment. It was using the human law to replace the supervision of the gods. In essence, this kind of oath existed for communication between people. Through swearing, one could gain the trust of the other party. The harsher the punishment, the higher the degree of trust. For example, the "poison oath" of "those who give birth to boys will be slaves for generations, and those who give birth to girls will be prostitutes for generations" was very cruel. However, when a person took a punishment oath, the credibility of what he said ranged from zero to one hundred. The authenticity of the words could not be judged solely based on his sincere attitude and the terrible promises he made, because the gods might not really carry out the oath, and it might just be the wishful thinking of the person who took the punishment oath. The Hippocratic Oath was also an oath related to the gods. This medical oath originated in ancient Greece and was named after Hippocrates. He was regarded as the father of ancient Greek medicine. In the version of the oath written by his student, there was an expression like "May the God of Heaven and Asclepius (Greek God of Medicine) be my witnesses. I will do my best to practice medicine according to my ability and judgment, so that the patient can be relieved from his illness." In "Whether I know or not, I should be green, fat, and red, thin," Ming Lan said in front of the ancestral tablets of the Sheng family,"I am married today, but I dare not act on my own. I will inform the gods and hope that they will have mercy on me." It was also a kind of oath to inform the gods. "Shen Mingri" is equally exciting. Everyone is welcome to click and read it!
