Forged in Absence
Forged in Absence
Synopsis
In the Kingdom of Eldoria, peace is often bought with sacrifice.
Duke Matthew Alexander von Castellan of Arnolia is a man cloaked in mystery, known throughout the realm for his icy composure and unwavering sense of duty. Bound by a royal decree, he is forced to marry Caroline Harrington, daughter of Viscount Edward—the very bloodline responsible for a generations-old feud that has stained both their families with bitterness and loss.
Their wedding is a cold political arrangement. Empty vows are exchanged, a perfunctory kiss seals the union, and before the ink on the marriage contract has dried, Matthew rides away to war, leaving his new Duchess alone in a castle that feels more like a prison than a home.
Abandoned and surrounded by suspicion, Caroline must learn to survive on her own. Over the next three years, the once-sheltered young noblewoman transforms into a capable and respected ruler. She shoulders the burdens of the duchy, protects its people through hardship, and earns the loyalty of those who once doubted her. Yet despite her growing strength, the wound of her husband's absence never fully heals.
When Matthew finally returns from the battlefield, crowned with victory but carrying scars unseen by others, he finds a Duchess far different from the timid bride he left behind. Their reunion is strained by years of silence, resentment, and unspoken longing. Neither knows how to bridge the distance that has grown between them.
But as political threats gather once more around Arnolia, Matthew and Caroline are forced to stand side by side. Through shared burdens, quiet moments, and hard-earned trust, the walls around their hearts begin to crack.
What began as a marriage forged by duty slowly transforms into something neither expected a love born from patience, forgiveness, and understanding.
