Fuwa was the mascot of the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. They were designed by Han Meilin, a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University. They were five cute and intimate friends. Their shapes incorporated the images of fish, giant pandas, Tibetan antelopes, swallows, and the Olympic flame. Their names were "Beibei,""Jingjing,""Huanhuan,""Yingying," and "Nini." They were homophonic with "Beijing welcomes you," which also meant "Beijing welcomes you." Fuwa's colors and inspiration came from the Olympic rings, China's vast mountains and rivers, rivers and lakes, and people's favorite animal images. Each Fuwa represented a good wish, such as prosperity, joy, passion, health and good luck, and conveyed the good wishes of friendship, peace, positive spirit and harmony between man and nature to children all over the world. On August 5, 2004, the mascot collection began. On December 1, the collection ended and a total of 662 valid entries were received. After many rounds of review and appraisal by the recommendation committee, the modification team, and the closed modification of the creation, it was officially announced on November 11, 2005. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Fuwa became the smallest torchbearer in the Olympics. To commemorate the 500th day of the birth of the Fuwa, China Post also issued 30,000 sets of "Olympic Fuwa Stamps" with authorization and approval on the 500-day countdown to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The 2024 Paris Olympics brought many different feelings to the audience. Judging from the opening ceremony, some people thought it was a chaotic and themeless hodgepodge. The atmosphere was dark, low, and fragmented. The cruise arrangement did not reflect the breadth of mind and pattern that France should have as a member of the five permanent members of the United Nations. However, there were also audiences who thought it was a bold and innovative dream performance. It moved the opening ceremony to the Seine River. Athletes entered by boat, and the famous attractions along the way were beautiful under the light. The cultural programs were rich and colorful with French characteristics. The hanging art was thrilling and exciting. The water curtain projection was fantastic and wonderful. When the music sounded, it was as if the Seine River was dancing. The integration of modern technology elements increased the sense of fashion and the future. At the same time, the safety and security work was also very strict. In terms of competition, athletes from all over the world showed extremely high competitive standards. For example, Zheng Qinwen's determination and perseverance in tennis was impressive. She was always ready to hit back the next ball in the game and would not let her guard down even after a dangerous situation. In the quarter-finals of men's table tennis, Fan Zhendong's match against Zhang Benzhi was also very exciting. Fan Zhendong showed perseverance and never gave up when he was lagging behind. He also had the characteristics of mental stability and calmness. He and Zhang Benzhi had superb skills. After the match, both sides respected each other and showed sportsmanship. The team support behind them also played a positive role. In terms of medals, the U.S. delegation won 40 gold, 44 silver, 42 bronze medals, a total of 126 medals, ranking first in the medal list. The China delegation won 40 gold, 27 silver, 24 bronze medals, a total of 91 medals, ranking second and creating the best results in participating in the Olympic Games overseas. The number of gold medals in the first overseas Olympic Games was equal to that of the U.S.; the Japanese delegation ranked third. This result showed that although the United States still dominated some events, its advantage was weakening. China's sports strength could not be underestimated and had great potential, but it still needed to continue to work hard in the face of fierce international sports competition. Behind the development of China's sports industry, there were important links such as the careful training of coaches and the hard training of athletes. China had a large population with a broad foundation of athletes and a deep cultural heritage, but sports required a huge investment. It was necessary to continue investing in infrastructure construction and youth sports promotion. This was not only related to medal results, but also to improving national health and strengthening national cohesion. At the same time, with the rise of the new generation after the 2000s, seniors such as the 70s should also work hard to set an example and encourage young people to be positive in sports, science, culture, and other fields, inherit the spirit of sports, and work together to create a more brilliant future for China's sports industry.
