The Orbs of Eurydice - They were a simple concept, really. go down to 'The Deep Layers', fetch an orb, kill or be killed, leave... Simple. You just had to crush the orb, overcome the terror hidden within it, and leave. Except the terror usually won. People aren't stupid, they wouldn't optionally go for an orb, would they?
issue is, they're stupidly high in value regardless due to their nature. Magical. Fail to retrieve one? You die. Succeed? Well, better hope 'they' listen, pay you fairly and leave you alone! Or, you know, die. Stay in the deep layers? Well, usually, you die.
So when he's in nothing but bloodied rags, arrested, and forced to go onto a solo searching party as punishment? His first thoughts were simply: "This is hell."
And he desperately wants to break out.
