The moment the starting gun sounded, the athletes rushed to the finish line like arrows. They were vigorous, and their strides were large or small, but the rhythm was fast. The cheerleaders in the stands were the first to cheer, and the students of each class responded immediately. The cheers were like waves after waves. On the track, some of the athletes walked as fast as flying, leaving the others far behind. They looked straight ahead with determination, and every step was full of strength. Some were slightly behind but did not give up. They gritted their teeth and rushed to catch up. Sweat rolled down their foreheads, but they did not notice it. Some were gradually losing their strength, but they still persevered with tenacious perseverance. Their breathing became rapid, and their faces were flushed, but they did not have the slightest thought of giving up. On the field, the cheers resounded through the sky. The sunlight shone on the athletes, as if they were covered in a layer of golden armor. When the competition entered its climax, the gap between the players kept shrinking or widening. Every corner was an opportunity to surpass them, and every sprint was full of infinite possibilities.

The men's 5000m race was one of the track and field events in the Olympic Games. In track and field events, the ranking was determined by the order of the competitors 'torso (excluding head, neck, arms, legs, hands, or feet) reaching the finish line along the vertical plane. The first to reach the finish line was ranked first. If the results were equal, the referee should consider the athletes 'actual results of 1/1000 of a second when they were admitted to the next race. If the results were still equal, the athletes should enter the next race. If the actual conditions did not allow it, the candidates to enter the next race would be decided by drawing lots. If the first place in the final match had the same result, the head judge had the right to decide whether to rematch or not. If there were no conditions for a rematch, the first place would be tied. If the other places had the same result, they would be treated as tied. All track events above 400m (excluding 400m), including the 5000m, would start with a standing start. The starter's command was "everyone in position." When all the participants were ready to stand still behind the starting line, they could fire their guns to start the race.
